"Think you can make room for your girlfriend?"
Danny looked up to see Sam smiling down at him. Returning her grin, he agreed immediately, sliding slightly to his right as she set her tray down and sat in the now vacant spot.
Despite Sam's bare arms, the scene was eerily familiar, especially as Dash sat beside him with a smile and asked, "You're still coming to my party tomorrow night, right, Fenton?"
Danny chuckled in response. Despite their history, he and Dash got along pretty well now that he wasn't hiding his secret.
"Duh. Wouldn't miss it." Turning to Sam, he said, "I'll pick you up and we'll meet Tucker there, right?"
"Right," she confirmed, before turning to eat her salad.
Struck with inspiration, Danny began to dig something out of his pocket. "Hey, Sam, close your eyes and turn around."
Sam looked at his clenched hand curiously, but she sighed and obeyed.
From behind, Danny gingerly draped a silver chain around her neck. As she opened her eyes, Sam fingered the silver charm laying delicately on her neck.
"A 'D,' huh? As in your average?" she teased.
"Hey! I'm making Bs, thanks!" he joked back. Becoming serious, he told her, "'D' as in Danny." He then leaned in to whisper in her ear, "As in mine."
"Let's get one thing straight, Mister…"
Danny almost winced, knowing she was about to be angry at him for assuming she could be someone's property.
Sam's eyes softened, and she smiled lovingly. "I'll only be yours fi we've made it clear that you're mine."
Danny gave a chuckle again, putting an arm around her and leaning close to her face.
"Done and done."
Leaning just a few more inches, he kissed her, and then he pulled back to look at her captivating amethyst eyes.
He wasn't the quarterback of the football team. And not all of the girls were in love with him.
But he didn't have to hide anything. He was respected as Danny Fenton and loved as Danny Phantom, because everyone knew that he was both. He was doing well in school, especially in science. And he was in a relationship with the love of his life.
He was grinning now. If Sam had taught him anything, it was that dreams do come true.
He kissed her again.
