Chapter 1: The first Letter…
Kaname's point of view:
I am 8, or that's what my parents keep telling me. I certainly don't feel like it. I have no friends really, I mostly like to keep to myself. Why, you ask? Simple. Everyone my age is a… to put it nicely… belong in a nuthouse. If they are a girl they try to flirt with me. If they are a boy they try to act as if they weren't afraid of me. Challenging me to a duel I don't accept and then they get their pride hurt because they attack me and I barely flinch when I throw them away from me with my powers. Vampires, can be funnier than humans I have learned that much. Right now, I am walking to the park to hopefully be alone. My Mom and Dad won't get off my back about making friends, so, I snuck out, in the middle of the afternoon, when they were sleeping. I know, not smart, but right now, I honestly could care less. I finally go to the park and see that it was deserted. I sighed in relief, but a part of me felt the need to talk to someone.
Yeah, not happening.
I walked over to the bench closest to me and sat down. I closed my eyes and just breathed. I am so tried to dealing with those types of people, it sickens me.
"Hello…"
I stiffened at the voice and turned behind me. It was a little human girl. She had little brown hair that went to her lower back and light brown eyes.
"Hello there little one… are you lost?" I ask her.
She looks at me with big eyes and smiles as she comes and sits next to me.
"No, I'm not lost. I'm Yuki, and you are?"
She extended her small hand out to me. I take and shake it.
"I'm Kaname Kuran, it's nice to meet you Yuki. However, how old are you?"
"I'm five-years-old!" she exclaimed proudly.
She was adorable.
She stared me straight in the face and asked. "How old are you?"
"Eight."
"Ya sure? You seem more like an adult."
"I feel like I am."
"How come?"
I look at her.
"Do you always ask so many questions to strangers?"
"Yes."
She's so innocent.
"Come to think of it, where's your family?"
She looks down at her hands and whisper. "I have no one…"
My eyes widen.
"How come?"
"My parents were killed by this weird person… I don't know his name, but I know his face… I'll never forget it as long as I live… I now live with my Grandma and Grandpa, their super nice, but they don't understand…"
"Understand what?" I know I'm pressing her, but I can't help it.
She looks around as if to make sure no one but me was around before she leaned in close and whispered. "I'm going to tell you a secret…" She looks around again before she tells me. "Vampires are real."
I choke on my breath.
"And how do you know?" I ask as if I don't believe her.
"The man that killed my Mom and Dad was a Vampire! I watched as he drank my Dad's blood! And then he turned my Mom into a Vampire to! It was so scary!"
She then stops, and looks at me closely.
"Do you know about Vampires?"
I don't know how to respond. I could tell her I was one, but for some reason I wanted to be her friend. So, I shock me head 'yes'.
"They drink the blood of the living, but I hear that they aren't all evil."
Her eyes widened in shock.
"Really?"
I nod.
"They have social systems… the bottom one is called a Level E, and they are humans who failed to become a Vampire. Then there is a Level D Vampire that is a human turned Vampire. Then there are aristocrats and Nobles, but I honestly don't know which one is of higher rank than the other, but they are born Vampires. Then there are the rare Vampires, they are at the top of the chain and all other Vampire fear them."
"Wow, really?"
"Yes, they are called Pureblood's."
"Why?"
"Because they don't have a drop of human blood running through their veins. That, and they are super powerful."
"Cool…. But does that mean that the one that killed my Mom and Dad might be a Pureblood because he turned my Mother?"
"Perphase."
"Kaname…."
"Yes, Yuki?"
"Will you be my friend?"
I couldn't hide my shock.
"Huh?!"
"I'm new around here, so I don't have any friends, and you seem nice."
I was surprised. I don't like hanging around kids much, human ones at that, however, she seemed so honest, and I didn't really have any either… that and my Mom and Dad might leave me alone about making friends...
"Best friends?" she asked hopefully.
I thought about it a little more before I smiled and said. "I would love to."
"Yay! Want to play?"
I sigh. "Why not."
"Yes! Come on Kaname!"
She pulled on my hand and dragged me in the middle of the park.
"Let's play… um…"
While she thought of what to play, I looked around. This park had lots of trees, brushes, and play toys. But now that I thought about it, I never once played on them. When I came to the park, it was to think and be alone. That, or get away from my Mother… or guests… or my Dad… or the kids of nobles or artistrcarts… wow, I come here a lot.
"H-Hey…"
I heard her tiny voice shake in fear and I look down at her.
"What's wrong?" I asked her kindly as I gently petted her head.
Yuki shakingly pointed towards one of the parks entrances. I looked towards the entrance and I froze. There, was a group of kids my age… or Pureblood Vampire's my age that bully anyone they come across. However, they were always looking for Pureblood's to add to their band, and they have been trying to get me to join. Every time I refuse, they only want me in their gang because I'm the strongest in history. They were coming over to us and I sighed in annoyance. I got on my knees next to Yuki and whisper to her.
""Leave everything to me and I'll tell you later."
"Okay…"
I stand up and grabbed her hand as Erio, their leader, came up to us.
"Look who it is… Kaname Kuran, playing with a little… thing." His voice rang out in disgust as he looked at Yuki.
Erio had red eye's, pitch black hair, and paler than pale skin. He always wore a black mussel shirt with dark blue jeans and brown boots. He's a weird one alright, heir to the Zidrock family. He hates me because I refuse joining his gang every time he asks. He's evil, and he is the next in line to being one of the strongest Vampire's alive.
"Do you like playing with things…?" Christina asked me with a evil sounding laugh.
Christina was the heir to the Kistume family. She had blonde curly hair that went to the middle of her back. Her pale skin always made her look like a ghost and only her eye's made her look like a person. They were a dark green color that brought some sort of color to her skin. She was stuck-up, snobby, spoiled, and bossy because of that. She hates humans just like her Dad, who planned to marry her off as soon as she was old enough to Erio. And to get his attention while young, she often wears dresses that make her look more like a ghost. Like the pale blue one she was wearing to day.
"Oh… have nothing to say Kaname…?" Erika giggled.
Erika had bright red hair, light, but faint orange eyes and pale skin. She was the heir to the Fuego family. She was a nice girl before she was pressed to join Erio's gang by her parents and turned into a evil bitch. She used to be nice, but now she was as low of a scum as Eiro and Christina. She, unlike Christina, wears jeans, and tank tops kinda like Erio's outfit. Disgusting was the word for them.
Together, the three of them form a group of Pureblood Vampires that everyone fears what will happen when they group up. They don't even have a group name and everyone fears them so badly, however, my only concern right now was to protect Yuki.
"Leave." I told them as I stood in front of Yuki protectively. "Us alone.
Taken back by the dangerous tone in my voice, Erio took a step back.
"Excuse me?"
"You heard me."
It was no wonder they were surprised to see me like this. Every time we ran into each other, I would be polite and refuse their offer before quietly taking my leave. This time however, I wasn't going to be the boy they thought I was.
A push over.
"Sorry Kaname, but we want to talk to you." Christina said as she took a step closer to us.
I felt more than sensed Yuki's fear behind me as she grabbed onto my jacket and held onto it. Erika looked behind me and smiled a cold smile.
"Maybe we can have her for lunch?"
Erio smiled and nodded at her.
"Good idea, Erika." He then turned to me and ordered. "Hand her over Kuran."
I felt Yuki's tiny body shaking behind me as I answered coldly.
"I think you should leave her alone… Erio." As I said his name, my powers escaped me and the ground underneath them shock violently.
This was the first time I ever used my powers out in public, and to be honest, I thought it was funny how the three looked at me with fear in their eyes.
"Are you threatening us Kaname?" Christina asked frightened.
I looked her in the eye's as my eyes turned red from anger and nodded. Christina and Erika grabbed Erio's shoulders and started to pull him towards the exit. But he had to say one more thing before he left us.
"Watch you back Kuran, one day I'll get you back for this."
And then they were gone.
I felt a tug from behind me and I made sure my eyes weren't glowing anymore before I turned towards her. She was shaking so much it looked like she would fall any minute. I picked her up and held her as I left the park.
"Are you alright Yuki?" I asked her.
"Y-Yeah… who were those guys Kaname..?"
"They are children of rich people that live here, they are mean, and nasty people." I stopped and looked her in the face. "If you see them, you run home, OK?" I made sure my voice was serious as I told her this.
She had tears in her eyes as she nodded and wrapped her tiny arms around my neck.
"Ok…"
I smile in relief.
"Kaname…"
"Yes?"
"Can you come over to my house to play?"
I was surprised.
"You still want to play after going through that?"
She nodded, her hair fell in her face and I moved them away. She sniffed and whipped her tears away from her eye's and she smiled.
"I'll ask Grandma!" She screamed as I put her down. She then told me to follow her and I did as I was told and followed her until a corner. It was there I waited for her to come back.
With Yuki her Point of view:
I ran into Grandma's house and screamed out happily.
"Grandma, Grandpa, can I bring a friend home to play?!"
I ran into the kitchen as Grandma turned to look at me with kind eyes.
"Hi Yuki, you want to bring a new friend home?"
I nod as I accepted a few cookie's she offered me.
"His name is Kaname, he's older than me, but he's super nice!"
She smiled down at me and nodded. "OK, but play nice."
"Thank you!"
I then ran out and towards the corner I told Kaname to wait at. A small part of me was worried he wouldn't be there, but as I approached, he was right there, in all his beauty. I called out to him and he turned towards me with his kind smile. I ran up to him and gave him one of the cookies and his smile grew warmer.
"Grandma says you can come over now, and she just made these to!"
Kaname smiled down at me and said. "Thank you very much Yuki."
I grabbed his hand and dragged him into the house.
"We're here!"
"OK, Yuki…" Grandpa said as he came out of the living room. When he saw Kaname he smiled at him. "Hello young man, are you this Kaname YUki asked ot bring home to play with?"
I turned towards Kaname and watched as he bowed his head towards my Grandpa.
"Yes, Sir."
"Lovely… just don't play to hard now kids."
I smiled at my Grandpa and pulled Kaname along towards my room. When we got there, I sat him down on my bed and crawled on next to him. He watched me with a weird look in his eye but as soon as he saw me looking back at him, he blinked and it was gone.
"What do you want to play?" I ask him.
He looks around my plain room and then he looks back at me.
"How about we get to know eachother better?" he suggested.
I look at him, before I smile widely.
"Sure! We are going to be best friends, so we need to know everything we can about the other!"
I watched as he tensed up, and looked away from me.
"Yeah…" he mumbled.
I stopped bouncing on the bed and looked at him.
"Kaname, are you ok?"
His bangs covered his eyes so I couldn't tell if he was crying or what his emotion was, and I had a feeling that I never will be able to see a clear emotion unless I tore down his walls. He then looked over at me with a big smile on his face and said in a way to happy voice for it to be a normal thing for him to do.
"I'm fine, so, ask your question, and then we'll take turns ok?"
"OK… um… hmm… where do you live?"
"I live near the park."
"Really, what street?"
"Uh, to be honest, I think it's some weird name I can't seem to remember right now. But my house is big, and has lots of plants and… stuff. I'll take you there one day."
I looked at him in wonder before he asked me.
"What's your last name?"
"Uh, Emse."
"Oh? And what does that mean?"
"Beloved one."
Kaname looked at me for some time. I frown and tilt my head.
"Something wrong Kaname?"
He then smiled at me and said with a calm voice. "Sorry, I was just thinking how much that suited you."
I wasn't one to blush, but I did and looked away from him.
"While we are on the topic of last names, your's is Kuran right?"
He nods.
"What does that mean?"
He paused.
"Not sure."
"OK, so…" I stopped as a thought occurred to me. "Do you know those mean kids form before?"
He tensed up again and looked away from me before nodding.
"What's their names?"
I watched as he swallowed and whispered. "Erio, Erika, and Christina."
"And then how do you know them?"
I really know I was pushing him, but I felt like I needed to know. He looked me in the eye and said seriously. "You stay away from them ok?" When I nod, he continues. "I know them because their parents are accuqanaices of my parents. That, and they bother me when trying to get me to join their little group."
"Why?"
He hesitated.
"I…. don't…. *Sigh*... know."
I could tell he was lying, but I left it as that.
"Ok, so ask me a few questions?"
"Why are you acting like you are happy when in fact your anything but?"
That question caught me off guard. So he could see through my mask? I sighed and let my mask fall off. In truth, I had been missing my parents, and since tye only died recently, I guess my Grandma and Grandpa wanted me to get over it as fast as possible, that or they didn't notice how down I was. I sniffed and whispered.
"So my… Grandma and Grandpa don't grieve anymore than they are…"
He said nothing.
"I… miss them… and knowing that Vampires are real… and that THAT man turned my Mother into a…. what did you called them… a Level E? It… just hurts knowing that she is out there." I look up and grab onto his jacket. "You believe me, don't you?!" I almost screamed with depression.
I exspected him to shake me off and say that I was crazy, or something like that. But instead, he sighed and pulled me into a hug as tears rolled down my cheeks.
"Yes… I believe you."
I dropped my shoulders in relief as I started to cry into his chest. I missed them, I missed my Mother's hugs. My Father's jokes in the morning. I missed my home… but as Kaname hugged me gently, I started to think that maybe I found a real friend. I was never able to keep friends for long, they all kept thinking that I was weird, and left me, but maybe this time, I could keep Kaname as a friend…
"Do you have other friends?"
"No, I don't hang around kids my age, or younger normally. My Mom and Dad nage me about making friends, but everyone I know so far only wants to use me, besides you anyways…"
"*Hiccup* So I'm your first friend?"
"In a sense."
I snuggled up to his chest as my tears slowed down. He sighed and picked me up and laid me down on my bed, and tucked me in as I yawned, having spend all my energy running around. He bent down and kissed my forehead and as my world turned to darkness, I heard him whisper to me.
"See you tomorrow in the park at noon."
And then I was fast asleep.
Kaname' Point of view:
I sighed. I had to make her go to sleep, she was just so tired after having her emotions run wild. I knew what it felt like so I laid her down and forced her to sleep. I looked around her tiny room and sighed. It was kinda big, and looked like a normal room… I went over to the curtains and took a look outside before closing them. It was about 2 I'd guess, but just to make sure, I looked down at my watched and sighed. It was actually 3 in the afternoon, and by this time, I should have been home by now… oh well. I made sure Yuki's blankets were ok before I quietly left her room. I turned around in the hallway and came face to face with her grandparents. I smiled, with my mask up, and tell them.
"She fell asleep. I told her I'll meet her at the park at noon tomorrow, that ok with you?"
Yuki's Grandma nodded before she and her husband led me to the living room and sat me down. I felt like I was in the principal's office, worse yet, my Dad's fancy's.
"Did she tell you?" her Grandpa asked me.
"That her Parents died? Yes."
"No… not about that." her Grandma whispered and looks around before looking at me again. "About the Vampire killing her family."
Oh, that.
"Yes."
"Do you believe her?" the Grandpa asked me but then stopped. "Of course you do, your a kid to."
"I'm sorry, but i don't just believe because of my age… Vampires are real, in this town, so don't go out at night and make sure to lock your doors, and make it look like no one is home, for Yuki's state of mind I suggest you do this, sadly, I'd love to stay and chat, but my Mother would worry soon. Goodbye."
And with that, I leave and go back to the park. Why? So I can take to short cute near here to my home, but as I get to the park and near the short cute, I hear from behind me.
"Where's that thing Kaname? Kill it?" Erio asked me mockingly.
I turned towards the group behind me with red eyes and threatening.
Leave her alone…" I threatened them before I flashed home for dramatics.
And to avoid waking up my Mom and Dad, I flashed into my bedroom, changed into PJ's, and went to sleep with my alarm clock on for 6 at night. I closed my eyes and quickly fell asleep while thinking about Yuki.
5 Months Later…
No point of view:
Kaname sighed as he walked down stairs in the morning. The Aido family, and a few others were there to talk to his parents and they brought their children with them… in the morning… on the day he was going to meet up with Yuki. He was in for a long day… When Kaname made it down stairs, everyone greeted him with a goodmorning. Juri and Haraku smiled at him and said as Ruka, Aido, Rima, Senri, Akatsuki, and Tukama watched them.
"Good morning Kaname, everyone us here to see you, maybe you can make a friend or two?"
Kaname grabbed an apple off of the table and said to Juri.
"Sorry Mother, but I made plans today."
"Oh? Well, how about you bring them along?"
"No thanks, I want to be alone today."
Juri frowned and said sadly. "But Kaname, you always want to be alone."
"Sorry Mother, I'll come back before everyone leaves and spend time with them, alright?"
Juri smiled and nodded."Ok, thanks sweetheart."
Kaname grabbed his jacket and left with Ruka watching him longingly. When Kaname got to the park, Yuki was playing with a butterfly. When she saw him, she left it along and screamed as she ran towards him.
"KANAME!"
Kaname felt a natural smile come on his face as she ran over and hugged him. He laughed and hugged her back and kissed the top of her forehead.
"Have you waited long?"
"No, ready to play?"
"Of course, what do you want to play today?"
"Um…. hmmm…. Lets go to my house, and… and…. No… let's stay here and… play… Oh! I know! How about you show me your house?!"
Kaname thought about it.
"Well, we have company over today… however… I can show you from afar."
"OK! Lets go!"
Yuki then released him and started to drag him towards the exit. Kaname, having dropped his guard around her long ago, laughed down at her.
"Wrong way."
Kaname picked her up and went in the direction that he just came from. He got near his house and sat her on his shoulders as he pointed at his house up ahead.
"Wow, you live there?"
"Yes."
"Do you think-"
Kaname took her off his shoulders and sat her down on the ground in a panic as he dragged her away.
"Sorry Yuki, but I think my Mother saw us."
"Is that bad?"
"In this case? Yes. She doesn't know I have a friend, and she doesn't like that I leave during the day to spend time with you."
"Why?"
"Don't know, but if she sees you our fun and games will not last long."
"Ok, that's bad." Yuki agreed as she and Kaname reentered the park.
In truth, Kaname had sensed more than saw that his Mother looked out the window to look at him, probably wondering why he had came back when he just left. Kaname picked Yuki up and sat her under a shaded tree as he offered.
"How about we tell each other stories?"
"OK! Me first! So… once upon a time…. There was a… uh… man… that…."
And their day went on like that. When Kaname went back home that day like he promised his Mother, he was shocked to find out that they were moving…
Next week:
Yuki had cried when Kaname told her about Juri not liking him being with her and said that was why they were moving. But they promised each other that one day soon, they'll see each other again.
3 Weeks later, Kaname had moved away:
Yuki sat in her room and sighed. She missed Kaname, very much, but as she sat there, she wondered if things would have turned out differently if she never asked to see his house…
With Kaname:
Kaname was laying down on his bed, also missing Yuki. Why had Mother been so cruel? Then a thought hit him. If he couldn't see Yuki, he could write her a letter, he knew where she lived to. Getting a piece of paper out, Kaname began to write. When he was done, he ran downstairs, outside, and put his letter in the mailbox.
Few days later:
Yuki received a letter and she brought it towards her room. When she read it, she squealed when she saw that it ha a return address and she sat down and wrote pages upon pages before she stopped and put it in a envelope. She then ran and put her letter in the mailbox and waited… that was how it all began…
