Title: Promises

Info: Arthur/Guinevere drabble. Based on Season 2 Episode 13. Arthur runs into Gwen before he goes off to kill the dragon attacking Camelot. Haven't written for Merlin in a while, been in the land of Doctor Who fics, so might be a bit rusty.

~Promises~
"I don't want you to do it,"
Her words weren't harsh, they were emotionless, but they still hit him like a knife. He didn't want to do it, but knowing that Camelot was in danger, he had to do it.
"It's my duty, Guinevere,"
"Please, Arthur. I know, but please,"
She was pleading with him now, her voice cracking on the last word, her eyes glazed with unshed tears. This hurt him the most, knowing that he was hurting her.
"Guinevere, please trust me," he was pleading with her, "I'll come back."
The tears finally escaped her eyes and she quietly choked out her next words, "What if you don't?"
Arthur stepped towards her, brushing away her tears with his thumb, "Don't cry," he whispered.
"What if you don't come back?" she asked, almost demanded, her voice a few octaves higher.
"I'm coming back," Arthur's voice was determined, Gwen's was disbelieving,
"Promise me," she whispered, hands resting on his chest.
Arthur placed the most delicate of kisses on her lips,
"I promise,"
And with that he walked out the door, ready for a battle he was damn sure to make sure he came back from, for Camelot, for him and for his Guinevere.
