...

He looked into her eyes, and his heart skipped a beat.

Those eyes. Those beautiful, sapphire blue eyes. It didn't matter how many times he saw those eyes, he would never get tired of them. There was pure trust and innocence in those eyes, and they glistened so beautifully when she smiled.

Her smile. That was another thing. The way her cheeks flushed pink whenever she smiled was so cute. She made him feel so warm when you smiled... and oh, how her eyes lit up! Oh, those eyes. Those beautiful sapphire eyes.

Then there was her voice. It was sweet and honest. He had even heard her sing once before, and he was left breathless. Her clear, melodious voice when she sang and the way she poured out her heart and her emotions into the song was breathtaking.

"Drew?" That same voice rang out, sweet and clear and honest, as May called his name. "Is... is everything okay?"

She sounded genuinely concerned. Why would she be concerned about him? Nothing was wrong. And they were just rivals, after all...

"Y-yeah, everything's fine," Drew mumbled. He had been staring. That was stupid. Why had he been staring at her? Why would he ever want to stare at her? She was just May. Just another hopeless coordinator, and just his rival.

"Okay. If there's anything wrong, you can tell me, you know." She replied.

Drew nodded absentmindedly. Her hair was really pretty. He liked brown hair. It shone really beautifully in the sun, too, and he could see bits of gold underneath the brown. Sometimes, when she took off her bandanna and he could see all of her hair, he would just stare at her for a moment. She was really pretty without that bandanna of hers. Not that she wasn't pretty with it... of course she was, she was always pretty!

Wait, now he thought she was pretty...? Why did he think she was pretty?! Why May of all girls?!

"May," he said suddenly. "Have you ever felt... I don't know, weird? Like, you get this warm and fluttery feeling inside you?"

May's eyes shone. "Yeah... I have. I guess it usually happens when I'm around you, but I've got no idea why... I mean, maybe it's... allergies or something?" The brunette frowned and thought about it. "Hmm..."

Drew laughed. "I really don't think it's allergies, May. Because I don't think I'm allergic to you."

"Really? Well, I hope not. I mean, I hope I'm not allergic to you either. Allergies can be kind of annoying. Max has this friend who's allergic to peanut butter and..."

May kept rambling, and Drew allowed himself a small, hidden smile. She really did talk too much. Then he thought about what she's said - how she usually got that fluttery feeling around him. It really made him wonder...

Well, he at least knew it wasn't allergies. Where did May come up with this stuff?

The two were sitting on a couch in the lobby of Ecruteak City's Pokémon Center. As he once more looked his rival up and down, the feeling in the pit of Drew's stomach grew. He sighed.

Allergies would probably be easier than this, whatever it was he was feeling. Because he was pretty sure he knew exactly what it was.

And no, it was definitely not allergies.
