He Doesn't Understand

Disclaimer: I don't own Naruto.

The little child is confused.

He doesn't understand why Mommy is crying and why Daddy is begging Mommy not to do "this." He doesn't know what "this" is, but he assumes it's bad because now Daddy is crying too and Mommy is screaming something about Daddy not loving them anymore. About him loving the "stupid whore he's been banging." He doesn't know what any of these words mean but he thinks maybe Daddy did something really bad and that's why Mommy is angry and why they've both been crying.

Sometimes when he does something wrong, he cries. And there was that one time he broke Mommy's favorite vase, she cried then too and he had hugged her and she'd said it was okay but not to do it again. But if Daddy did something wrong then all he has to do is say sorry and he and Mommy can go back inside, it's cold on the window and Mommy is holding him too tight.

But Daddy doesn't apologize right and he calls 911. The little child doesn't understand why his father is calling the police, police are only called when you really need them, when something really bad is happening. If Daddy just apologizes right, then things will be okay again, he reasons. The police won't have to be called.

The child doesn't understand why his mother is telling him she's doing this because she loves him, it's the first time either of his parents has talked to him since they'd started fighting a long time ago. He doesn't know how long, but it's dark outside now and it was light when they started, so it must have been a long time. He still doesn't know what "this" means but he knows it's the same thing his Daddy was talking about earlier.

He doesn't understand, doesn't realize when his mother lets go. Why does his father scream?

He is still innocent when he and his mother land in oncoming traffic, when his father jumps after them.

He thinks maybe now Mommy and Daddy will be happy again.

He stays innocent until his last breath.

Hey! Depressing right? I wrote it while I didn't have my laptop (by hand people, I wrote this with a pen!) I've written a lot while being laptop-less. I'm going to be uploading those. Not all are depressing. I swear.
