Artillery slammed into buildings and vehicles of Robotropolis. GUN forces blitzing the city with everything they had. Their deadliest weapon, "Project SHADOW" was leading the charge, efficiently ending everyone armed or who posed a threat. He, at 16 years old, was their perfect design, carrying a carbine and a side arm, nothing can stop him.
"Shadow, we can cut through here, it should be quicker getting to the capital building." He heard his partner shout over the artillery bombardment. Rouge hovered right next to him. She was a white bat and dressed quite slutty for his tastes, compared to him, a black hedgehog with red stripes, gloves and hover boots.
He nodded, and kicked the door open, only to come face to face with an adult male blue hedgehog taking a swing at him. His rifle was quickly slammed against the wall, whereas he ducked just in time to miss getting hit. Quickly he drew his pistol and fired three times into his attacker's chest, killing him.
"JULES!" he heard a woman scream. He looked to the right of him and he saw a terrified blue female hedgehog, tears running down her face. He looked down at his weapon, then to the body.
'No weapon? But he…' Shadow tried to piece this scene together. But he never managed to finish, his mind was too much of a blur.
"DAD!" another voice called. He looked to his left to see a younger hedgehog, blue furred with red shoes and white gloves, both hands in fists as he rushed the ebony one.
"SONIC! NO!" the woman yelled, but her child let it fall on deaf ears. As soon as the kid as within striking distance, he let loose a punch which rattled Shadow's teeth and bones. As he recoiled with the force of the hit, Shadow brought his foot up, connecting it with the others knee, shattering it completely. But the other didn't give in that easily. The blue assailant lunged forward and tackled the red-striped one, and managed to wrestle the gun away. As the other was preparing for another hit, Shadow reared his own fist and connected it with the other's jaw. He then managed to kick himself free and regain his gun.
Quickly he stood, and while the blue teen was stumbling backwards, he fired twice, painting the wall crimson, which the blue child's body slammed head-first into with a thud.
'Wha… I just…' Shadow stood in horror, gun still leveled to put another bullet in either corpse, his mind was running rapid with the fact that he just killed two unarmed people, just trying to defend themselves and the ones the loved.
"Shadow! We have to move, we've lost the element of surprise!" Rouge yelled, but he didn't budge, a look of confusion and horror stuck to his face.
"Come on Shadow! If we stay any longer, we'll join them!" Shadow instantly snapped out of his trance, turning around and running, leaving the woman to weep over her husband and child. He didn't look back.

The moment Shadow returned to GUNHQ, he left for his room, passing many agents on his way.
"What's the matter Agent Shadow, you look like you killed someone. Haha!" A ballsy passing agent laughed, who was quickly put through the steal wall.
He entered his dorm and slammed the door, depressed and deep in thought. 'I… killed them. I gunned them down while they we're unarmed. I did to them what GUN did to me!'
And for the first time in forever… He let tears fall.
