Donnie groaned in frustration, throwing his pen onto his work desk and staring at it through narrow eyes as it rolled to a stop. It should have been an easy equation to solve and yet it seemed beyond him. The answer was just out of reach, teasing him with the knowledge that he already knew it if he just thought about it more. He would probably kick himself when he did solve it, if he ever solved it.

He lifted his hands up and massaged his temples, wincing as he realised for the first time that his head was pounding and his throat felt uncomfortably dry. He dragged his eyes away from the computer screen and looked around him in surprise. The room was completely dark other then the light from the screen in front of him. He frowned, forcing himself to his feet, walking across his lab to the light switch; He blinked as the artificial light filled the room making him blink against it.

He started as he heard a knock on the door just beside him, rubbing his eyes with one hand, he placed the other hand against the palm recognition panel he had had installed when Michelangelo had managed to break in one time and destroy one of his experiments by accident. He waited for the familiar click to indicate he was no longer locked in his lab and pulled open the heavy door and glanced out curiously.

"Hey" Donnie said looking at Leo in surprise; Leo glanced up and smiled at him, holding out a mug of steaming liquid.

"It's coffee" he stated. Donnie's hand stilled half way to the mug as he looked up at Leo with a suspicious look on his face.

"Don't look like that" Leo commented rolling his eyes, still holding the cup out. "I didn't make it, Raph did" Donnie smiled as his hand completed its journey; he smelled the liquid before taking a sip his shoulders slumping in relief. "Can I come in?" Leo asked and Donnie nodded.

"You brought me coffee which gives you a free pass," he said over his shoulder as he made his way back to the computer "Make sure you close the door behind you, it will automatically lock, I don't want Mikey getting in"

"He's not in anyway" Leo commented absently "Him and Raph went over to Casey's for the evening, something about needing to regain their manliness" Donnie chuckled as he shook his head.

"They still going on about that thing that happened last week then?" he asked and Leo nodded joining in Donnie's laughter.

"You know what they are both like" he said "They'll never change"

"I hope not" Donnie said sitting down and typing. Leo leaned against the desk, a thoughtful expression on his face as he looked at Donnie.

"You know what you remind me of" Leo suddenly said breaking the comfortable silence that had descended between them.

"What?" Donnie asked, his attention still fixed on his screen.

"Friday's child" Donnie's hands stilled before he tilted his head up and looked at Leo as though he had grown a second head.

"You what now?" he asked, Leo flushed

"Well technically you remind me of Saturday's child. You know that rhyme we found in that old nursery book. Saturday child will work until its crazy, sound familiar?" he asked, Donnie sighed and leaned back looking at him.

"Is there a point to this?" he asked and Leo shook his head.

"Nope I just wanted to see what you looked like, I was beginning to forget" he teased, he stood up "I'll see you in bed Donnie, don't be too long" he said, Donnie watched him leave before smiling and shaking his head, reaching out and switching off the screen. This could wait until morning; he had more important things to focus on.
