Silverstar edged forwards on the Misty rock that over looked her clan. The moon shone brightly and up here, her cats where safe from the strange animals that roamed the ground.
"Silverstar."
The AirClan leader turned to see Mintleaf, the clans medicene cat standing behind her.
"What is it?" Silverstar asked as she twitched her ear.
Mintleaf twitched her whiskers in amusement, "You should be resting."
"Why in StarClan would I do that?" Silverstar hissed impatiently.
"Your not a young cat anymore." Mintleaf reminded the leader, "May I also inform you, you are on your last life."
"That's no biggy." Silverstar mewed half heartedly, "It just makes me an equal to any other living cat."
Mintleaf narrowed her eyes, "Someday, your stubbornness is going to get you killed."
The AirClan leader twitched her ear, dissmissing the medicene cat. Suddenly, the sky growled and opened up, exposing a great light. Silverstar opened her wings and braced herself to fly, but a bolt of lightning lit the sky. A crack sounded and Silverstar fell, her unmoving body lay lifeless where she stood moments before.
"Silverstar!" Mintleaf sobbed as she landed next to her friend, "I told you! I told you your stubbornness would kill you!"
"It was my time to go." A voice said in Mintleaf's ear, "Silverstar!" The medicene cat called out. No reply.
Mintleaf's apprentice Spottedpaw landed next to her, "Is Silverstar really gone?"
Mintleaf nodded absently, "Yes..."
Spottedpaw snorted, trying to hide her grief, "I thought nothing could kill that stubborn old she-cat!"
"Well something just did!" Mintleaf hissed. Clearly upset that her apprentice wasn't showing her sadness.
"Calm down." Spottedpaw growled softly, "I need you to come."
Mintleaf obeyed silently and glided down from the Mist covered rock. Cats were fretting in the clearing.
"What's wrong?" Mintleaf spat, swishing her tail in panick.
"Wrong? Nothing." Spottedpaw mewed, "I came to get you, because Brightmoon is kitting!"
Mintleaf sighed, "Oh. Where is she?"
"In the nursery. She's already kitted I helped her with that." Spottedpaw purred proudly.
"Well then why did you get me?" Mintleaf hissed, confused and blinded by grief.
"I wanted you to check her and make sure she's alright!" Spottedpaw puffed.
"Ok. Fine." Mintleaf hissed, "Stay here."
Spottedpaw opened her mouth to object but Mintleaf had already stormed away and had her head poked in the nursery.
"Hello?" The Bright Orange and white Queen called.
Mintleaf grunted, "How are you?"
"I'm fine." Brightmoon replied happily, "Spottedpaw did a wonderful job helping me."
Mintleaf purred, "My training paid off did it?"
Brightmoon nodded weakly, "Yes. It did."
"Have you chosen names for your kits yet?"
The queen shook her head, "I'm waiting for Brakenleap."
"Of Course." Mintleaf mewed, "Silverstar has died."
Brightmoon gasped, "No? She's been our leader for countless moons!"
Mintleaf sniffled, "I know.."
"I'm so sorry." Brightmoon whimpered, "That's horrible."
Mintleaf's eyes widened, "Look at your kit! The little silver one!"
Brightmoon gasped, "She looks just like Silverstar!"
Mintleaf nodded rapidly.
"That's what I'll name her." Brightmoon murmered, "Silverkit."
Mintleaf smiled for the first time that night, "I'm sure StarClan approves. Silverkit, the kit destined for greatness..."
