On the planet Sigma Six, which was over sixty three thousand light years from Earth, a family sat down to watch the evening's video casts. On screen a green humanoid read off the news from a vidprompter in a dull monotone voice.
"Boring!" The youngest family member protested, he was only six spans old
"I agree, seriously guys isn't there anything better on" said the teenage family member who was thirteen spans old
"The news is a very important vidcast" objected the father, who was over fifty six spans old
"But we watch it all the time darling" replied his life partner
"Oh fine"
The father finally caved in and switched the channel
"Boring!" once more cried the youngest and the channel was again flicked over
"Awful!" cried the teen and the channel was once more flicked over
"Rubbish!" the life partner joined in happily
The father pressed a button on the controller and then finally put it down.
"There, we're now watching Terran television"
"What's a Terran" Asked the youngest
"Oh a humanoid species located on a planet in Q2 of our galaxy"
The image they were greeted with was that of a logo stating "BBC"
"This is the worst of them all, it's just a picture" complained the teen
"And now for the first episode of our science fiction programme, Doctor Who" Announced a voice on the channel
The Family watched intently, their eyes glued to the screen as they watched something none of them had expected to see. Something old and new at the same time and they would never watch vidcasts the same way again.
