"Hello, John! How's your morning been!"

He slowly raised his head and looked up at the petite nurse that stood before him, with brown hair and brown eyes, freckles dotting her face. She held a clipboard in her right hand and a pen in her left. A smile was stretched across her face; John didn't return the smile.

"My name is The Doctor," he whispered. "And where's Rory?" he added at a louder, but still soft volume. The nurse's smile turned sad. She moved closer and sat down across from John, taking his hands in hers.

"John, your name isn't The Doctor. It's John Smith. You came here seven years ago."

"Where's Rory!" John repeated, growing slightly upset.

"Nurse Rory... had to leave," the nurse said, very concerned but keeping calm.

"Oh," John whispered. He knew what that meant. They always had to leave in the end. "Where's Amy then? Is she coming to visit soon? I've got lots to tell her. She's missed so many adventures! Why hasn't she been visiting me, Nurse... erm..."

"Louisa," the nurse replied.

"Ah, that's a lovely name, Louisa... but tell me, where's Amy been?"

"... Who?"

"Amelia Pond! Rory's wife! Where has she been off to lately?"

"John-"

"Doctor," he corrected.

"... Doctor," she began again. She wasn't supposed to play along, but the hopefulness in his eyes made her feel like she owed it to him. "Doctor, your daughter has been dead for 14 years, you know that." John let out a snort of laughter, pulling his ankle-length coat closer around him.

"Ha! My daughter? Oh, Amelia is not my daughter, Nurse Louisa. She's my companion! She and Rory traveled with me for a while. But I guess Rory had to leave, and... now where's Amy been? OH MY GOD!" John exclaimed, jumping out of his chair, picking up the blue and silver pen on the table next to it. "Did I leave her in 1375 with- Oh, no how silly of me. We haven't even been there. Yet." he winked and sat down.

They sat in silence for a few moments, his hands in hers. The moments turned into minutes, and minutes turned into ten minutes, then ten more.

"Nurse Louisa," he said. "Why are you crying?"
