Summary: The Strawhats are going to Wano after Totland, but Sanji is unwell after all is said and done, and the crew is concerned.

Chapter 1 - The Meeting

POV Sanji

Sanji felt like shit. Shitty shit shit. He was fucking tired, hadn't had a good night of sleep since before they left Totland. He was getting pissed off at the shitty nightmares about his shitty brothers and the man who was not his father. He stuffed his 6th cigarette of the day in his mouth, said "Fuck it" and stuffed #7 in there too, and lit them. And then he heard "Good morning, Sanji-kun." and he jumped. He jumped at Nami-san. Because he hadn't heard her walk in, was insolent enough to dare not notice the presence of such a divine goddess. "Good morning, Nami-swaaaan!" he sang, "I apologize for not noticing your entrance, but please give me a second and I'll get you some breakfast!" He had been sitting down, taking a rest after finishing up breakfast, which was rather unusual for him, but given his lack of sleep he needed it. He made his way into his kitchen, pulling out a plate and loading food onto it.

As he walked back into the dining room, he noticed a shadow of concern on Nami-san's face, and knew it was for him. People were noticing his odd behavior over the last few days. The way he almost always failed to notice someone's entrance into a room, the way he was always distracted and tired. His absolutely ridiculous (as per Chopper's exact words)chain smoking. They think there's something wrong with me, a part of him said, and another said Well, if they do they're fucking right. There was something wrong with him, he was barely able to sleep and any time anyone accidentally "snuck up" (actually just walked around perfectly normally) behind him, when he realized they were there he'd flinch. Like his body thought they were Ichiji, Niji or Yonji. He watched Nami-san, still looking worried as she ate. "Sanji-kun, after Carrot wakes up would you like to take a nap in the women's quarters?" Nami-san asked, beautiful when she was worrying about him. He was stunned. Had she really just offered to let him... "Well, the men's quarters are noisy and I just thought you needed a rest." she continued, nervously. "I'll make sure nobody wakes you. I... know you haven't been sleeping well." She was so stunning when she was concerned about him, so he simply couldn't bring himself to refuse her. "Alright, but if I'm still asleep by lunchtime, please wake me so I can make it."

And so there he was, half an hour later, in the ladies' room. "Here, Sanji-kun, use my bed." Sanji's heart almost stopped right then and there. "B-But, Nami-san, I couldn't sleep in one of the ladies' beds. Please, just get me a chair or something, I can sleep on that just fine." Nami-san sighed in frustration, and muttered under her breath something that sounded like "Yeah, I expected that." Then she drew herself up to her full height and said, her voice a command, "Sanji-kun. My bed. Now." Sanji's heart ran wild at the implications of those words. "I-I-I... I wouldn't... I can't..." but then Nami-san simply pushed him over onto her bed and he fell silent. "Sweet dreams, Sanji-kun" Nami-san said, and Sanji's body immediately felt heavier. He felt himself draw towards sleep, and hoped Nami-san wouldn't be there to see the certainly cowardly and pathetic way he'd wake from the nightmares that were sure to come.

POV Nami

Nami sighed, feeling relief wash over her. Sanji-kun was asleep. She wasn't sure how long he would be, but she was determined to make sure there were no interruptions. She knew she could do nothing about the nightmares Chopper said he had been waking from every night, but she could sure as hell do something about Luffy, and if he was stlll asleep by lunchtime (and she really hoped he was, Sanji-kun NEEDED the sleep) she'd decided to make it herself, despite him telling her to wake him up. Dealing with her usually rowdy crewmates was easier than expected. She told them "Sanji-kun is taking a nap." and everyone immediately quieted down. Luffy, Carrot and Chopper stopped running about, and Brook began to play a more soothing tune. "Yohoho, that's certainly good to hear," Brook said softly. "I'm quite worried about him." Nami understood immediately, they all did. They were all worried. Sanji-kun had been ready to give everything for them, again had tried to sacrifice himself. Like he always did, because he was an idiot and couldn't seem to understand that they wouldn't know how to survive without him. And this time it was worse, because it was his family and even if she didn't know anything about them, she knew they must have done terrible things to him. She could still remember Judge, on his ship, shouting insults about how Sanji-kun was weak and worthless, dared to call him a failure. Nami remembered the way she had wanted to drop lightning on him and the burning anger she had felt at those words, had wanted to shout that you're wrong, Sanji-kun is worth more than a thousand men. Sanji-kun is one of the strongest, kindest men I've ever met and the greatest chef in the world. But she decided not to, because it wasn't her place and even if he was an asshole it was Sanji-kun's decision at how to react to him, and Sanji-kun decided to brush it off so she should do the same. His brothers had seemed so wrong to her, too. She barely heard them talk, but they seemed so emotionless. Not like Zoro, Zoro was stoic. They weren't hiding their emotions, they seemed like they didn't have them. She was... unsure about Reiju. She seemed nice, saved Luffy and Nami had even noticed her smiling fondly at Sanji-kun, but she couldn't be sure she wasn't as fucked up as the rest unless Sanji-kun told her she was good. She needed to know the story. That was the only way to save him from these nightmares, this anxiety he seems to carry himself with. She knew she could easily get him to tell her. Sanji-kun was never able to refuse her. That was the problem, actually. He would tell her if she asked him, whether he was ready to or not. She couldn't ask him, someone else would have to. Someone he could refuse if he wasn't ready. Then, she could walk into the room and be there to listen. When he was ready.

"We need to talk," Nami said, "about helping Sanji-kun." Wordlessly, Nami walked to the galley and everyone silently followed her. Sitting around the table, Nami explained to the Strawhats why she needed someone else to do it. Everyone but Chopper was confused, but Chopper agreed it was better to give Sanji-kun the option to refuse until he was ready, so everyone else accepted it. Chopper knew what he was doing, if he said it was better then that's the end of the discussion. Almost everyone agreed that they wanted to be there to support Sanji-kun when he was ready to talk, Luffy said "I'm his Captain, it's my job to be there for him!" and Chopper and Brook expressed similar sentiments. But Carrot, who had been silent in the conversation thus far. "I'm not really part of this crew, I'm just tagging along. And Sanji barely knows me, he probably doesn't want me there when he talks about something so intimate..." she said, dejectedly laying her chin on the table and looking like she wanted to be able to do something. Sanji-kun had lead the group that saved her entire civilization, after all. Nami knew Sanji-kun already saw Carrot like part of the crew, the way Nami herself did, and she knew Chopper did, too. But it was Luffy's decision, and he hadn't even suggested she join the crew once yet. But Sanji-kun was incredibly open with his kindness, sometimes Nami thought it was like he either hated you, didn't know you, or would give his life for you. She knew he would accept her company like anyone else's. But she also knew that Carrot wouldn't fully believe her. So, Nami decided Carrot just needed a way to get closer to Sanji-kun, so that when he did end up talking about it, Carrot can comfortably be there and support him like she wants, like the rest of them. Nami was still hoping Luffy would extend her an invitation, anyways, so Carrot should get closer to the crew. And, Sanji-kun could probably use some help while he was as insomnia-ridden as he currently was, so she knew just the thing. "How about you help Sanji-kun cook? It'll be hard to convince him, but if you need any help me or Chopper could find a way to convince him, and he really does need the help until he starts getting enough sleep again. You'd be able to get to know him a lot better, and I'm sure he'd love to spend time with a woman he'd probably describe as 'unbelievably adorable' or something dumb like that." A light lit up in Carrot's eyes, and she gave her assent with an excited little yell. With that matter settled, it was time to discuss how to coax the information they needed to know from Sanji-kun. It wasn't going to be easy. Sanji-kun was going to insist he was fine, he didn't need to talk about it. It was a testament to how tired he was (and the power Nami had over him, the very reason she couldn't be the one to try to coax it out of him) that he had accepted the nap, albeit not without protest. Nami was really worried about him, getting stuck with his family really messed him up. She didn't like seeing her nakama in this condition, wanted him to be happy again. He had protected her so many times, had just tried to do it again, and she wanted to protect him, too. But she couldn't do it in a fight, Sanji-kun was unbelievably strong. So she had to protect him from his own demons. And then hopefully make lunch, because she really hoped he slept at least that long.

Author's Note: I'm still new to writing fanfiction, so it's probably not very good, and I clearly have no fucking idea how to end a chapter. Or name anything. Next chapter I plan to have a Carrot POV and maybe someone else (open to suggestion, obviously only Strawhats who were on the Sunny when going to Wano). But Sanji and Nami will be essentially the main characters.
