It was a normal 9pm in the Gryffindor Common Room, and within the cozy walls of the room there was only few people who bothered to stay up, of course, one of those people was Lily Evans, who was finishing up her Potions essay. The sleep deprived redhead bit nervously on her lower lips as she jotted down extras for a higher mark. Sweat gathered on her brow, (not from the heat) which was constantly loosening and unloosening from stress.
And that was why Lily Evans was in quite a bad mood. So it was quite common sense, to most of the castle, to stay away from her during this certain night, and possibly away from the Common Room as well. Groaning and wiping her sweat onto her nightwear sleeve, Lily flicked to a new page of her Complete (and Changing) Dictionary Of Herbs and Fungi, skimming the index page for a certain potion ingredient that was buggering her off.
And that was when, Marlene, probably the most infuriating female and person on the planet, decide to lively jog from her dorm downstairs, where she spotted her fiery haired roommate moping on the couch. Marlene knew exactly what to get her in a good mood. Lily eased herself backwards to her so comfortable couch, she wouldn't expect her work to be done tonight, right?. To ease the annoyance that was her eyes twitching, she massaged the orbs, trying to find relief in something in the late night.
In fact, she almost dozed off, only if it was the slow cackling of the flame and the bright light that streamed off it like flowing water, or the fact that her mind kept drifting to the Potions essay, or was it the fact that someone just eased into the couch next to her? She knew who that was. There was only one person, in this entire castle, always up late and would dare to sit next to a Lily who was nearing a stage where her brain couldn't contain her anger. Her roommates called it Red Lily.
"Marlene, what are you doing here?Shouldn't you be asleep?".Opening her eyes to find Marlene, she questioned her as she threw a dirty grin at the sleeping redhead. Lily did seem tired, from the black circles underneath her dulling eyes. Her hair was frizzy and all over the place, obviously the essay she was doing was so urgent that she hadn't bothered to even comb her hair. Honestly, Marlene was tempted to call Lily a savage but under the threat of being magicked unmercilessly into a into worm and being stepped on was quite the threat she wouldn't forget.
Lily recaptured her attention to the three rolls of parchment that lay curled on the table laying across her. The even sight of it sent her reeling, countless sleepless nights took a toll on her, with nothing but writing, parchments, books and the occasional friendly banter. She rubbed her eyes tiredly, and and pushed her backside further up the couch, a sign of her getting serious.
"Or shagging Sirius, for that matter?". Marlene noticed a small tone of playfulness in her voice, that was a good sign. Shagging Sirius somewhere had been more of a daily routine as the days dragged on as her being his girlfriend. In fact, they had only shagged in McGonagall's own personal room yesterday, and the amount of kinkiness they generated was far of paramount. Playfully rolling her eyes, Marlene flashed Lily a bright smile,
"Of course not. We already shagged. Just a simple goodnight kiss. Here, a Butterbeer. Should cheer you up.". Marlene handed Lily an uncorked bottle of warm Butterbeer snatched from the kitchens, and Lily uncorked the beverage, and chugged the thing unceremoniously. Lily, feeling the warmth of the drink sleep through every pore in her body, sighed in content as she set the quarter drank bottle onto the table, next to her parchments and tucked a strand of red hair behind her ear.
"You know, I'll never forgive you,".
"For what?". Marlene uncorked her bottle, and although deliberately slower than Lily, sipped her Butterbeer, whilst staring at her with warm brown eyes. Lily could see the embers of fire dancing in her eyes.
"For taking so long to get me this.". Lily spun the bottle around and around holding the tip of the cork, feeling the sensual warmth and pleasure that was warm Butterbeer wash through her. Marlene, Lily had thought, as she honestly believed, had her moments as well. Now half drunk, the bottle was gently placed onto the table, Marlene joining her as the minutes passed.
"And now", Marlene continued, now quite drunk, as hers was a concoction of Firewhiskey and the Butterbeer Lily was drinking, which was still as powerful as average Firewhiskey, "I want to get on the topic that I so seriously wanted to talk to you today.".Marene stared into Lily's eyes, her brown orbs shining with determination.
"Why didn't you talk to me about it earlier then? You can see I've got some work to do, alright?". Marlene sighed heavily, and placed a hand on Lily's left thigh, "Because, Lily flower, you were off prancing wherever you were, and in the morning you had a Red Lily morning.". Flushed after saying that, Lily's eyes landed square on her, and she narrowed her eyes suspiciously.
"Red Lily? Marlene, I just had a cramp.". Lily rolled her eyes at the stupid excuse of a morning cramp, she maybe, just maybe, flung a few lamps around when her ignorant, pig headed, love sick and absolutely mental roommates didn't help her with her cramp.
"You call wrecking our dorm a cramp?. I wouldn't go ten feet near you if you woke up with acne on your face.". Marlene had to dodge a well aimed hex at her, which smashed into the brick fireplace, dislodging a bit of cement. Once all panic had left her, Marlene turned around to see Lily scribbling on her piece of parchment, and giving her the tiniest of smirks in the corner of her mouth. Marlene shook her head depressingly.
"Anyways, back on topic.I want to talk about you and James.". Lily's hand paused momentarily between writing a sentence that described the side effects of a herb if didn't even look up from her writing, and responded swiftly,
"Marlene, I told you so already, I do NOT like James Potter.", Lily rolled her eyes, unbeknownst to Marlene who was clicking her teeth in an unbelieving manner, "Seriously, If this is all you wanted to come and do it's better that you go to sleep, Marls.". Not admitting defeat, Marlene had other ways of proving that Lily should fancy James Potter, and that was through her unexplainable talent of explaining things in an unexplainable manner.
"But you do like him! The universe itself tells you, as me and Alice and basically all of the girls that actually are friends with you and put up with your quirky anger levels.". Lily chuckled, Marlene's tactic want going to work this time. Last month, sometime, Marlene had tried this on her and she accidentally revealed where she kept her secret stash of Chocolate just say she never saw them again. The trick was to say nothing, and explain everything in the simplest answer possible.
"The universe, huh? I have some friends, one of them is definitely not you.". Eyes wide with shock, Marlene automatically abandoned her unexplainable plan, and changed to a please-do-not-hate-me plan, which involved lots of puppy eyes, Butterbeer and the usual hex. Lily smiled with delight, as she saw her best friend crawl up beside her and, wrapping her arms around her slender waist like a snake, sobbed dramatically into her middle.
"Alright, alright, I get it. Love you, Marls.". What was the wizarding property of newts eyeballs again? Lily propped the book on her knees, ignoring the intent look Marlene gave her. "Lily, with all seriousness, I just wanted to ask you if you liked him have to.". Lily threw her a quizzical look, it very like her to probe inter everyone's sex life until she knew even the amount of times they sweat every time they had sex but it was unlike her to probe Lily. Lily, was a ticking time bomb and it was only a matter of minutes before she detonated.
"Please, Lily.". When Lily gave her a glare worthy of McGonagall, she backed off, but not until nursing a few gulps of her Firewhiskey. "And what if I say I'll help you with your homework and you tell me a teeny, beeny bit, just the tiniest of teeny about how you feel about James.". Marlene even gave a gesture, her finger less than a millimeter apart, to show how small she truly meant. Lily sighed. Whether she was going to wriggle out of this one alive, it would always be a plus to have some more hands on for her homework.
" The teeniest of teeniest of bits, then.". Marlene nodded, and responded immediately to every order she gave her, kind of like a robot or a dog aiming for a tasty treat. Shuffling around in her bag, Marlene couldn't help but be in awe at the unbelievable amount of books, parchment and otherwise papers in Lily's bag. Even if Lily could know the spell to featherweight bags it would be a painful task to try to hobble up the stairs with a bag that, more or less, was twice her weight. Marlene paused at a brief snap at something in her bag. Lily wasn't supervising her check like a mature adult, she was intent on finishing her task and her job, currently, was to locate and retrieve a small pocketbook on Underwater Herbs.
The piece of paper she had retrieved was unlike anything she had seen in Lily's bag. Although piping full of books and papers, every sheet she had was neat, unwrinkled and pretty much flawless in terms of what the contents were. Of course, it wasn't the pocketbook, but the wrinkled piece of paper that looked like it had been shoved down in multiple occasions was much more intriguing. What Marlene saw inside revealed what she was doing, as she gasped loudly, actually, quite loudly.
"What are you doing Ma- HOLY bloody Merlin! Give me that right now.". In fact, Lily crossed a few lines there. First, she didn't ask politely. Second, she had thrown all her power and force (which was quite powerful considering her size) and grasped Marlene's neck, and thirdly, she had kicked Marlene's Firewhiskey in haste and the beverage was now slowly seeping into the carpet. Marlene already saw what was on the sheet, unlucky Lily.
"What Oh Merlin Lily! You drew a picture of James kidding you, -squeals- , oh, I never knew you were such a romantic.". Lily's brain was left in a mode where not even one cell could not function properly. Her mind ran as fast as light trying to search for excuses.
"What, no, James gave that to me. Yes, yes. He gave it to me like, last week.". Lily nodded, clarified and confirmed her answer would be enough for Marlene, who was grasping the piece of parchment like it was her entire life line. When Lily jumped on her, Marlene reacted faster, rolling on her back and landing in a soft thump on the floor. It wasn't enough for the blonde, strangely, who was brandishing the picture of her and James in liplock like a shield.
"How is it you carry it in your bag? How is it you accepted a picture of you and him kissing from him? How is it your name is scribbled at the bottom and also drawn by Lils." . Marlene's impenetrable jabbering of questions ranged on until even Lily was stunned. She hadn't realized there were so many things wrong with her having this picture. Bloody Hell. Bloody Merlin's hell.
She fancied him. She bloody fancied James Potter, the biggest no good liar, arrogant arse, stupid prankster, and yet unbelievably gorgeous. She couldn't believe it. And it wasn't just a crush, she was obsessed. Fuck it. She needed at least one person to know.
The couch creaked with Lily sitting down, her head in her hands. The picture slid underneath her hands, accompanied with the soft voice of Marlene, "I'm so sorry, Lily. I should've known that, you, you know, probably want to keep it secret.". Marlene was distraught, she hadn't expected Lily to react like this, it was more like angering overdramatically and hexing everything in her sight. "I'm sorry, Lily.I just, just wanted to know.". Somehow, Lily got over her anger of her ultimately nosy and probing best friend, and smiled at her.
"I guess you know now.I bloody fancy him, Marlene, and it isn't even right.I'm not supposed to like him. It morally wrong, unethically horrible, massively incorrect and I'm just, just…". Lily stared down at her palms. She could feel a weight press down next to her, and a head on her laps. Marlene smiled from underneath her, and said something she vowed to remember, "You'll get nowhere doing me, if I have any sort of profession in dating, I would say you should go and ask him.".
"But I don't think he likes me anymore. He stopped the whole 'go out with me thing' that he did everyday since the beginning of term.". That was true. Although she wouldn't have denied James had matured, probably the most (not counting Remus, he was quite sensible from the start), and the constant barrage of affection in public by repeating the same phrase had ended, and it worried her that James had, in the simplest way possible, given up on her.
"I don't think he has ever given up on you. He just probably wants to act more mature so you would like him.". Lily frowned. That was the least effective way to get someone to like you, but she want a masterly of the arts of love, Marlene was close to, as she so said herself, but she was pretty sure that he had lost interest in her, maybe, over the summer.
"Besides, I think you two are cute together. Doesn't he have a girlfriend though, some sixth year?". A sickening sight brought reality back. Last Hogsmeade Lily had encountered a James Potter and a certain Charlotte Redsawn exchanging inhuman amounts of spit via lip connection. She hadn't talked to her since the sight.
"Yeah, her name is Charlotte Redsawn, wasn't it?".
"Ha, more like Harlot Redsawn, don't you think?". Marlene marveled at her own offensive joke, and lapsed into silent giggles whilst Lily gave her a knowing look. She lifted herself upwards from Lily's lap and straightened her nightwear.
"Thanks, should go to sleep now.". Glowering annoyingly at the empty bottle of Firewhiskey, she snatched up Lily's remains of hers and gulped the rest down, sashaying half drunk back up the stairs to her dorms.
"You coming? You can sleep in my bed.".
"Yeah, I will. In a moment. Just finishing up this essay.".
The click of a lock and the close of a door let loose a breath she was holding. She picked up the picture of her and James, it want the best of drawings, the slightest hint of red suggested her and anyone could recognize a messy haired boy with glasses around here. Lily tucked it deep into her bag, ignoring the fact that she could've torn that piece of paper. She turned to the clock. Damn, it was 10. She had only written half a foot in one hour, due to her stupid best friend Marlene. Lily considered going back to the Head's Dorm, but it was well past curfew, and her perfect record of not sneaking outside during curfew was something she did not want to jeopardize.
In conclusion, the effect of the Amortentia, the love potion, can only be increased by adding in newt eyeballs, as the reaction of the pus inside has an increase of - what was it again? Lily groaned. She had just, unknowingly, returned the book into her bag, and now it was most likely the case of finding it that was more time consuming than the essay. It was quite late. Her brain ceased to function at around ten, and it was well past a healthy sleeping pattern.
"Merlin's pants!, where did I leave them.".She wrung her hands in frustration, shoveling quickly past books and pieces of parchments for the minuscule pocketbook. It wasn't Lily's idea to purchase a book that barely had any information and was a smaller than her foot, no it wasn't, it was Slughorn's idea. She had been so caught up in the search, even the Portrait Door opening did not perturb her from her rummaging in her backpack.
James lightly tiptoed into the Common Room, only to be greeted with a prudent ginger he knew too well. Perfect timing James, she's right in front of the she's so beautiful- James snapped back to reality. He was hunched behind a small couch, of course, if anyone entering the Common Room at 11 saw the sight across him, they would do the exact same thing. Engrossed in her search, James decided it was the best time to dash up the stairs, even though the sound of his feet would give him away.
His brain began formulating a plan to cross Lily without her detecting him. Meanwhile, Lily grasped the spine of a small book, Yes!, and pulled it out of her bag, speaking to the book as if it was a perfectly normal thing to do.
"Now listen closely, you small thing, you do not just randomly disappear into my bag, alright? If this happens next time, I will hex you, throw you away and buy a new book. Understand?". James couldn't hold it in. He snickered, just enough for Lily to hear. Her head whipped around in his direction, and through some sort of sorcery, saw the top of his messy head. Only one person would snicker at her, come back at 11 from god knows where, and hide behind a couch that was barely half his size.
"JAMES POTTER! You come out here this instant.".That line reminded him solely of his mother, when times got desperate and he had stolen an entire batch of cookies. "No, please no.". James whimpered in fear of what she was going to do. The sound of feet walking neared James, and he tensed for a confrontation. He had been trying to play into her good pages, or books for that matter, for who knows how long. If this ruined things, chances may be he would probably never get a chance with her.
And there she was, like an avenging angel, her messy hair spread across her shoulders like a ruby halo. James gulped. This would be long.
"Potter, I would like to say that this is, um,", her head turned towards the direction of the clock, whose short arrows were pointing to the letter 11, "11 PM, and you've better got a bloody spiffing reason for me to let you go.". In all honesty, James wasn't that scared, but he was so damn amazed. She was so beautiful, even in a state nearing a ghost, pale skin and green eyes. The obvious inexperienced bun tied towards the back of her head only added to her beauty. Her nightwear, James surmised, was nothing short of arousing. A simple white nightgown that went beautifully well with her skin, and a small scarf tied around her milky white neck. He couldn't blame was a December anyways.
James couldn't form words, so he just stood up, a few foot taller than her, and gave her the Potter smirk. That didn't work on Lily, "Should I report you to McGonagall or do you want me to give you detention?". James cocked his head. He'd been out until 10pm. The ability to choose something was brand new, and he wondered if it was because she was sleepy, tired or just plain crushing over him. He chose the third option. He smiled to himself. Ah, bad thing to do. He was supposed to be mature, dammit, this going to be reminding her of fifth year.
"James! There you are! I have been looking for you all night.".James cringed at the familiar voice. It was Charlotte Redsawn, his girlfriend, a sixth year who was so clingy that it was otherworldly. Was that even a word? "Uh, Lily?".
"Yeah?". A cursive reply followed his question, as the redhead had suddenly fixated her glance to the strange human that was skipping down the stairs. Lily felt the strong desire to punch her in her shockingly white face. It was probably covered in more than fourteen layers of makeup, Lily's sarcastic side commented as she floundered down the stairs.
"Is otherworldly a word?, by the way what even are you doing here? Shouldn't you be at the Head's Dorm?". Lily answered, although her eyes were stilled quite occupied by the sight of a brunette jumping down the stairs at four steps at a time, come on, please fall and snap your neck, please- No! bad Lily, get those thoughts out of your head. She was a Head Girl, for Merlin's sake and she couldn't go voicing out her opinion if someone deserved their neck snapped to the public. McGonagall chose her over her unwillingness of drama. She shook her head in confusion.
"Oh, right!.Yes, it is a word, I am having a sleepover and the same question could be asked or you.".
"Yeah, I'm having a sleepover too. Siri got some pranks to share.".James managed to squeeze out before he was trampled by a brunette sixth year. James's eyes were highly uncomfortable, as Lily could make out, and were trying to look anywhere other than the mass of brown resting it's head on his neck.
James wished so much It was red.
Lily, who had been so intent on giving him a punishment since the last minute, appalled James as she swished on her feet and turned her heel to him and Charlotte. James looked down, to his great disgust, to Charlotte puckering her lips and slowly leaning into him. Hastily avoiding a kiss, he directed her to the direction of the couch's, more importantly the couch in front of Lily, where Charlotte walked to.
Plopping down on the velvet sofa, James stared at Lily, who was submerged with the task of finishing her essay. Maybe if I make her jealous, that might make her open to me. -sigh- time to continue a fake relationship then. In fact, she only felt the slightest hint someone was staring at her. So enthralled with her task, she only felt the hint that someone was even sitting there only until she heard she the soft chorus of voices in front of her. Lily looked up to see Charlotte saying something, quite loudly, that made her blood boil.
"Oh am I lucky to have you as a boyfriend, James. I just wish we could be in the same ?". In all honesty, Lily had no idea what James thought of the girl, she had probably only wanted attention by being the girlfriend of Quidditch Star James Potter, Head Boy, Captain of the Gryffindor Quidditch Team and God of Kissing (as she was told by previous acquaintances of Potter). It was truly a nauseating sight, as Charlotte, clad with probable ten layers of red lipstick, aimed for his lips and James unenthusiastically responding.
I could direct the fire towards that annoying harlot, no one would see of course. Her rational side patronizingly reminded her that directing the fire towards Charlotte would probably lead to a cell in Azkaban. And Lily, now unfocused on her current task of finishing the paragraph, found herself writing the same sentences, then phrases, then words….. Lily found herself losing her focus on and on, her consciousness only resting in her ears, where she uninvitedly eavesdropped on their conversation. It wasn't really a conversation, as she had thought, just snogging and smooching.
Her eyes inwardly drifted upwards, where she saw Redsawn's hand drift upwards into James's T-shirt, and she moaned against his lips as her hand entered his chest cavity, which wasn't disappointing at all. Acutely, James was aware that Lily was watching, his eyes were not as focused on Charlotte as she thought, but was often drifting to Lily hoping for a reaction. A minute into the snogging session, her eyes trailed upwards, and he smiled against his lovers lips, but it wasn't on him, it was on another personal in fact, on the stairs.
"Lily? Marlene asked me to check how you were doing. Said you should have finished, a wotsit? Yeah, yeah Potion's essay.". In came Alice's magical voice, and Lily beamed at her. James frowned, his wrinkles on his forehead quite clear as he was worried Alice might come in and whisk Lily away. He loved Lily looking like this. James loved Lily, too, coming to the topic. Alice took a seat next to Lily.
"Lily, Marene was worried sick about you. She said something about sleep deprivation and overworking yourself to make Sluggy thinks he likes you,", Alice whispered jokingly, and added as an afterthought, "She's dead asleep now, if you would know.". Grateful or not, Lily chuckled, it was so Marlene to admit her dying and unwavering love for a friend, and suddenly and randomly shag some bloke ten minutes after. Life was just a spontaneous ride, Marlene once quoted, unlike yours, which is scheduled. Live for once, Lily darling!.
"Yeah I'll be up there in a moment.". Alice gave her a worried smile. "That's exactly what Marlene said. Are you sure, you know, your not obsessed…". Alice jerked her head in the direction of a certain couple that was very public about their affections, she could detect a bit of slobber and spit on their faces. Lily made a face at Alice. Smiling, Alice raised her hands in a mock surrender gesture, and gave a second glance at Charlotte, who was enthusiastically devouring James's face.
"What, obsessed over World Slobber Day?". The statement might have been a bit over the noise limit, as Charlotte glared at Lily before continuing her quest the cover every inch of James's face in her spit. James responded to her statement with a knowing smirk.
"Well, no. I just heard a very interesting thing Marlene found in your bag.". Again covering her eyes, Lily groaned and peeked through an opening of her fingers, "Please, don't tell Mary about whole school will know in a day or two.". Alice clearly frowned. Mary, Marlene and Alice were all equally as close as best friends, maybe to the point of sisters. What was the point in not telling her a secret?
"Please, Alice you should know. She's so vulnerable to persuasion. Besides, about that picture.". Lily held up a finger to pause Alice, who was stammering and giddy like a child on her birthday, "I did draw it. I guess you wanted to know from me but,", Lily gestured for her to come closer, aware of Potter sneaking glances at her, "I like Potter. Happy? I bloody fancy him.". Alice squealed and clapped, and was abruptly aware of their audience.
"Um nothing for you to worry about. Just girl gossip.".Charlotte disentangled herself from James arms, leaning forward as if telling a secret. "You know I'm a girl, right, so can I join your gossip? Please?".She pouted, but one look between Alice and Lily and the obvious right choice was made.
"Um, no, this is like a group secret for our group.".
"Yeah, you can't join sorry, bout that.".
"Really, just one bit of info? Please?".
"No.". Lily said firmly, before turning her back to talk to Alice, propping her elbow on her shoulder. Out the corner of her eye she saw Charlotte sigh and lean back into James's arms, smiling at him. The world went green with jealousy. Lily promptly noticed there were many objects in the room that could cause fatal harm to humans, including a lamp, chair and a painting of an elderly woman lighting a candle.
"You know what? Let me finish you that essay. You must be knocked, girl.". And so Lily handed her the paper, which was thoroughly read and finished by Alice. Handwriting compared, the ending was slightly different but Lily, for the first time, would call it a sleepless night and shaky handwriting. Lily beamed at Alice, once again.
"Now, Lily, here's the thing you kn- You know what, let's talk upstairs,", Alice grabbed Lily's hand as she was about to leave the scene. James and Charlotte now had their hands up each of their shirts, the picture quite gross.
Oh fuck, Lily's going. No no this is not going according to plan.
"Wait, Alice, I need my can go up first.". The table was still topped inches tall with books and parchments, most of which were thrown out of Lily's bag in carelessness from her fury in unable to find the pocketbook. Alice gave her a look like, I-know-there's-a-reason-behind-you-getting-upstairs-late look and rolled her eyes.
"Are you sure, your not obsessing over,", Alice made a strange wrangling gesture with her hands, indicating to the couple which had now stopped their snogging session and relaxed by the her a glare that Alice knew, instantly, Alice responded,
"I meant James, you know, not what they were doing.". What? She, obsessed over James? Was Alice off her rocker? No, she had just got a small crush on him, yes, the fact that she was obsessed with James was pure
"Blasphemy. I certainly do not obsess over him, and you should know the truth. Obsessing over Potter? No no, not good, no, incorrect, not good.". Lily nodded at her surprisingly strange choice of words. Alice shrugged, and with a small "we'll talk upstairs", walked up the stairs back to the dorm.
"Hey Alice.".
"Yeah?".
"Tell Marlene that I thank her to send you, and not her annoying self, that she is an absolute tit and shit best friend, and I would like to sleep with Mary tonight.". Alice gave her a smirk she knew too well, and the door shut closed for the second time that night. Seconds later, a loud thump and an incredibly girlish "WHAT?" reverberated across the room. Lily smiled. Her friends were truly family.
As Lily packed up her equipment, she couldn't help but notice that she her jealousy was growing far from it's usual mark. Every glance she sent at the couple was greeted with more rage, and more will to snap Charlotte's neck, and to push her away from her James, her?
Lily sat down and pondered her thoughts, it was resembling a jigsaw puzzle, but the answer when she connected all the dots was enough for her to understand. When she looked across her again, Charlotte had her hand in his messy hair, and his glasses were laid unused on the table. Lily snapped a quill in her hand in anger, spontaneously cutting her palm. Lily seethed and winced at the same time, seeing the blood drip in pellets was, weirdly, satisfying.
After getting the last bits of paper and parchment into her already overladen bag, Lily stood up, dusted herself off and glared at James, who's mind was racing trying to find what angered her. Her bag was picked up. It was then dropped. Lily's mind, which was already overloading with rage, snapped viciously when she saw Charlotte's hand drift and slide underneath her lover's pants.
"Get the HELL out of here NOW!". Lily's angers which had been guided and slowly released from Alice's calming and soothing voice now flared up again like a red star. Charlotte scrambled to her feet, looking between herself and James, seeking guidance from her boyfriend. Little did she know, James wasn't really into her, and as Charlotte noticed her boyfriend was avoiding her gaze, she pointed at herself, horrified.
Anyone who would find themselves getting yelled and screamed at by Lily Evans would most likely disappear and be gone from school mysteriously for at least a week before they show their faces, and most prefer to never socialize with the hot tempered Gryffindor again. Yes, Lily was gorgeous, but most of the boy population had given up on the redhead as her temper was as reputation goes, and Lily was just, as many boys speculated, too boring and scheduled. They liked women who would surprise them in every way possible.
The action was surely the last straw.
"Yes! You! Get out, OUT!". Her beetroot cheeks flared from her anger, as the Charlotte managed not to whimper but to look between her and James. The latter was quite mollified, as he had never seen Lily in such a situation before, and as usual refused to meet her eyes.
"Why? He is my boyfriend, isn't he?". In a blind of rage, she had quite forgotten common sense, and as the realization of the fact Charlotte have given her, Lily narrowed her eyes. Whatever happened, she was not going to lose James to a brunette bimbo who almost shagged her boyfriend in front of the Head Girl. What was she thinking? Lily was tempted to put a sharp object through Charlotte's middle, preferably killing her, but again, her ration side prevailed.
"I'll give you three reasons. One, you almost shagged him in front of a Head Girl. Two, he does not seem to enjoy your sessions with you, and thirdly, and with no doubt about this statement he belongs to me!, and only me.". A confused expression crept onto Charlotte's face. Anger, confusion, shock all morphed into one look, and that was the exact expression Lily was wearing as well.
"I, um, I mean he does not belong to you but not me either, sorry just got carried away,", Lily smoothed her dress in her attempt to look more as the controlling, well minded Head Girl that she needed to be, "And one more thing, GET OUT OUT HERE!". To this final statement, Charlotte lifted herself onto her feet, and with one fearful look at Lily bolted up the stairs three at a time and slammed the door of her dorm behind her.
Lily whipped to James. Smirking like an idiot, James had made out her first statement, and relayed it to her in the most sane way possible.
"You said, and I quote,", He let out an exaggerated cough, "he belongs to me, and only me, of course referring to my handsome self, end quote.", and Lily spluttered some words incoherently, making James's grin go even wider. "I didn't say you were handsome, as you know. Just saying that to save you from, you know,", Lily ended, gesturing to the direction where Charlotte ran off to.
"I thank you for that, my glorious knight in shining armor. Alright, let me just say something.". James walked up to Lily, who looked up to the towering human before her. James was at least a few feet taller, and Lily frowned when James snickered at her small stature.
"Oh shut up. I'll catch up one day, and stop acting as I'm a midget. Look at Tina so small than I can't see her during roll call, and I have the best eyes in the class.". Smiling at her jest, James stared into Lily's eyes, and she did the same to his.
"Anyways, if you say that someone is yours, then that means that, you know, your the person's boyfriend.".
"Stop being such a biased feminist. Add girlfriend to the list.".
"Also, if you sa-", James didn't even get to finish that sentence as Lily had reached for his necktie, vigorously pulling his head down and attached his lips to hers. The experience, was, otherworldly, as Lily would describe it. At first he was unresponsive, and Lily feared it was because he had not liked her anymore, but as time passed, James's hands went around her slim waist and pulled, her body completely warming up to his. She guessed what they told about Potter and his sneaky mouth was true. It was magical.
Their tongues danced, fiery mouths exploring each other's, as James opened his eyes to pure bliss, looking into ones of green that closed in pleasure. And then, there was a small click. Lily, nearing air deprivation, broke the kiss and gasped a deep gulp of air. She turned her head. There, on the first landing of the stairs, was the annoying self, the absolute tit and the shit best friend, Marlene, who was aiming a Muggle camera at her. It looked brand new.
"Shame if someone broke that camera, Marls. By the way what the BLOODY HELL ARE YOU DOING HERE!". Marlene smiled sweetly at Lily, innocent at it's best, and dashed up the stairs and hurried into the room. James chuckled good heartedly.
"Way to ruin a moment.". Lily wiped her mouth with the side of her hand, observing the amount of spit on her lips and wiping it again. Great, now she had turned into Charlotte 2.0, only now she was a redhead and a Head Girl.
"Disgusted by my spit?".
"Not yours. Your previous lover's". James nodded, satisfied with her answer, and leaned it for another kiss. Aware of the spit that had been previously there, Lily leaned backwards, and rolled her eyes at James, who was pouting at her. Just like that, in a few blissful moments, they were now acquaintances. James now resorted to smiling stupidly. She couldn't blame him. He'd been chasing her and now, after all those years he finally had gotten Lily it was quite an achievement.
"Um, Lily,", He cleared his throat, "Will you, umm, go to Hogsmeade next weekend with me, perhaps?".His eyes turned to puppy dog eyes, and she softened at them. Although she was not sure, it had been quite the obvious answer, she had just kissed him and didn't follow it up with either telling McGonagall of attempted sexual assault, hexed him into next week or just beating him up. She had returned the kiss, she thought.
"Sure, Three Broomsticks.". James smiled at her, trying to keep his giddiness in, but it was also a failing task. "You know, I won't judge, You can just do whatever you want.".
With that, James threw himself into a celebration worthy of a spoiled child, which James technically was. Breaking into some dance or moves that she didn't even know existed, laughing, hollering at the top of his lungs followed. He walked up to each and every one of the paintings, bidding them a good night, although many cursed when woken, and jumping on the mood had ended, James had walked up to her, Lily quite amused. She was sure that he had just woken up the entire dorm, and for the first time, she didn't tell him off.
"Go and shower. Clean your teeth. If you're lucky, I might actually kiss you in the morning".
"You kissed me.". He touched his lips faintly remembering her unique scent. "You kissed me".
"I'm pretty sure that's the same thing. James, I kissed you.".
"You like me.".
"I can't answer that question yet. I just kissed you. That's all.". Lily smiled teasingly. James's downcast face was so different from his victory loop a few minutes earlier.
"You kissed me.".
"That's like, you know what, thanks for the same phrase three times, but I'm going to go sleep now.". Teasing boys. Lily smiled behind his back as she turned his heel to grab her bag. James simply stared at her, all the way to the top of the stairs.
"Hey, but do you like me? Lily, please I need to know.". From the top landing, Lily looked down at the messy haired man below, and admired how thick he was. What did he think? From her bag, she rummaged around, cursing he amount of books before she opened a wrinkled piece of paper. She rushed downstairs, dropping it into his arms, on the way up stating, "Maybe I do, James.", and pushed the door of the her dorm open.
On her way to close the entrance, she saw James smiling down happily at the paper and looking up at Lily, who blushed and closed the dorm door. Lily's heart raced like horses. Her beat could be heard pumping throughout her ears. The random butterflies that appeared in her stomach fluttered around. It was a bit cheesy, Lily remarked on the situation, but how thick can you get?
Finally disposing the thoughts of James from her mind, she came to acknowledge the current room she was in. The lights were completely off, Marlene's off tune snoring gave away that she wasn't really, sleeping, and Lily, on her tiptoes, teetered to see who was which. So much for talking more upstairs. Finally locating Mary's bed, she snuggled into her blankets, Mary silently responding with pat on the leg. She felt…. giddy. It was a first.
But as she walked downstairs the next morning and gave James a morning kiss that basically shocked everyone to frozen statues, that was a first as well.
A/N
So, this is my very first fanfic. And I mean, fanfic, not first one shot or July fanfic, it's my very first piece of writing on this site, and I personally do not know what inspired me to make this piece. I think it was 'xxanglophilex's Of Extreme Unhappiness, Death Glares, and Jealousy. All rights to the writer, superb story. Comments and reviews are very appreciated, constructive criticism would make better than praise, in my opinion but both are well received. I personally love banter between friends and/or family, most fanfics I have read that attempted banter or jokes have been amusing, and I'm not quite sure on my take of this piece.
Finished this at a 9pm and boy is it tiring. One shots, I understand, are supposed to be short and sweet, but this is more of a one chapter, 7 thousand plus word one shot that might seem strange, but that is my take. I have read many other one shots, and think that most are exactly what they should be, short and quite fluffy and sweet.
I intend to take most of my fanfics, If in the HP universe, about either the Marauders or the second generations of Potters and Weasleys, because the fact that Rowling has expanded and explained most of the info we need to know about Harry Potter, but not really on the Marauders as well as the second generation ( The Cursed Child let's ignore because it hasn't completed it's series yet.)
Hope you guys Reading this like this piece of writing, see you again in the next piece, 'Confessions of a Moonlit Boy' which is about the Marauders finding out Remus is a werewolf.
Anywho, J15435 out
