Harry sat outside the hall on the marble stairs. Behind him, he could hear through the thick mahogany doors the sound of music and laughter. Harry's dress robes fluttered as a strong wind swept through, yet he felt no cold. He would never feel anything again.
Suddenly a set of headlights turned the corner and shone right into Harry's eyes, causing him to drop his head. The car slowed as it approached the curb. His eyes adjusted just in time to see the old woman begin to step out of a small car. Harry waved to the young red headed man driving as she walked up to take the lady's arm and help her out of the car.
"Hugo!" Harry's warm voice boomed into the car.
"The boy who lived! How are you?" Hugo's strong young voice replied from the drivers seat.
"Not to bad. Look, I will have her ready to go in about 2 hours. Meet you back out the front?" Harry asked, suddenly feeling the chills of winter running down his spine.
"Sure thing. Make sure she behaves!" Hugo joked as he began to drive off. Harry turned to the woman and looked into her eyes. The knowledge in them seemed distracted and slightly grey. Harry noted that her crazy frizz hair had been piled on top of her head.
"Hello Hermione." He smiled.
"Hello Harry." she replied as she embraced him. Both of them had lost their other halves in the past few months. Harry had lost Ginny 3 weeks before the wedding, and Hermione had lost Ron 4 months ago. They were all that was left.
The two smiled and took each others hands before proceeding to walk up the stairs, back toward the reception.
"I can't believe James is married now." Hermione mused just before the two walked into the foyer. The pair froze as they passed the floor length mirror. To any other bystander, the scene would look like two old people standing in front of a mirror. They would see the grey hair, the wrinkled skin and the knowledgeable eyes. Yet, when Harry and Hermione looked into the mirror, they were transported to the past. Hermione's curly brown hair shone through and things that now sagged, did not. Harry's back had straightened and the wrinkles around his eyes disappeared. The two looked into the mirror and saw their souls. Yes, the two would forever be friends, nothing more. But in their last few years, that was all that mattered. Friendship.
