Taken By Surprise

"'Hogwarts, a History' again? Geez, Herm how many times are you going to read that blasted book?" Harry Potter said from across the room.

Hermione turned sharply, sending her oh-so-famous death glare towards him. "For your information you dunderhead, I rather like this book. In fact, you can say that it's my favorite book. Don't you have a favorite book?"

"Well...I..."

"Ha! I knew it! You probably haven't read any other books besides the one's we're required to read for class!"

"I have to!"

She laughed and set the book down. Standing, she walked towards him. "Oh is that so, Potter? Then I guess that your favorite book must be 'Tinki Winki's Purple Book'."

Harry stood up and walked forward until he was face-to-face with her. "I do not read Telitubies' books, Granger! Just because I'm not a know-it-all like you are doesn't mean that I read kiddy books. You want to know what my favorite book is? It just happens to be 'Dragon Riders of Pern' by Anne McCaffrey!"

A look of shock appeared on her face, "You've really read that?"

"Yeah..."

"Oh, well, I take back everything I said then." She walked over to the window and looked up at the night sky.

He followed her, "Speaking of what you said, why did you snap like that?"

She looked at him; her eyes beginning to fill with tears. She blinked them back and spoke, "Because, I know you think of me just like everyone else does."

"I'm not like everyone else."

"What? You don't think I'm the boring little muddblood that everyone else thinks I am?"

"No, of course not. Your Hermione, the one who risked getting kicked out of the school when you lied to cover for me and Ron. And...," He grabbed her and picked her up. Then he extended his arms, causing her to lean out the window.

She shot him a look of horror.

He laughed, "...if you ever refer to yourself as a muddblood again, I'll drop you out the window."

"Okay, okay, I won't call myself a muddblood again. Just get me back in there before I really fall out this window!"

He laughed once again and set her down inside.

"Don't ever do that again!"

He smiled mischievously. "Do what? This?" He picked her up bride style.

"Harry!" She threw her arms around his neck as to make sure that if she fell, she was taking him with her.

Laughing, he turned away from the window and walked up the stairs to where Hermione and his private rooms where. (They are Head Boy and Head Girl after all.) He opened the door to her room and placed her down on her bed.

She folded her arms and glared.

"Oh come on Herm, don't look at me like that. Your face might stay that way." He kissed her on the cheek playfully and left the room, shutting the door behind him.

Hermione blushed and brought a hand up to the cheek that his lips touched. "Harry..." She sighed and laid down, drifting off to sleep.

He always knew how to take her by surprise...

Disclaimer: I don't own Harry Potter, it belongs to the great J.K. Rowling. And 'Dragon Riders of Pern' belongs to the almighty Anne McCaffrey. ^^
