People who are sensible about love are incapable of it. ~ Douglas Yates

For some people love is easy. They give their hearts without shame or hesitation because they have no reason not too. Fox and David Xanatos were not those kinds of people.

Since youth, he sometimes wondered if he even had a heart because he had hidden it so deep inside. Even though a part of him could always feel it beating, years would pass between each time he admitted he heard so much as a sound. And this boy with his hidden heart retreated into his own mind, reading, crafting, plotting. He learned to trust those parts of himself even if it pushed everyone, even his father away. And he let years passing while he ignored the sound . . .

She on the other hand knew what she had, and knew it was broken. She didn't even know a time when it wasn't, or how it got its first crack. Perhaps from the disappointed and bored mother? Or the father with his strict beliefs she never seemed able to share or understand? Or maybe both? Or maybe a part of her sensed the sand her parent's marriage was built on and that was how the first crack got in.

Whatever the reason, it made the girl with the broken heart push herself and push hard. She became strong, she learned to be cunning so she could find a reason for not trusting people and to keep herself safe when she was right. And she hated when she was right and a part of her heart broke each time she was . . .

So they both grew up broken, perhaps even crippled. But like a diamond that has been cut and sanded until it looks 'right' when viewed from the outside they both looked strong.

But in the end each one was strong where the other wasn't. And they weren't sensible about anything when it came to each other though they fooled a great many thinking they were. Sensible men don't go to elaborate means to get their women back in their arms when he can just wait with the same patience he applies to everything else. And sensible women don't marry men who won't admit to her or himself that he's even capable of love.

But they weren't sensible even if they pretented, the boy with hidden heart and the girl who only had a broken one.
