Sergeant Major Kain Fuery's feet swiftly carried him through the hallways of the Central HQ building. He was late to meet the new State Alchemist that had transferred there. 'Late? Ugh, I'm usually oh so punctual!' Kain thought to himself, making him remember why he was late in the first place…

*Flashback*

"Ugh, I wish I remembered my umbrella! It's raining cats and dogs!" Kain had said to himself on his way to work.

bark bark

"Hm?" Kain looked for the source of the noise. His eyes stopped searching when they landed on a small, drenched, frightened puppy. He began to debate with himself about whether he should take it, or leave the puppy here. But after looking at it one more time, he just couldn't say no. "Come here little guy, I won't hurt you." The tiny chocolate lab slowly and carefully climbed into Fuery's outstretched arms.

*End Flashback*

"Sorry I'm late!" Kain announced as he arrived at the office, ten minutes late. Roy was about to chastise him about how military officers should always be on time, until his eyes drifted to the animal in Fuery's arms. He sighed at the sight in front of him.

"Got yourself another dog, eh Fuery?" Mustang smirked. Kain just smiled sheepishly. He turned to Riza Hawkeye in hopes she would take the chocolate lab.

"I can't take in another one of your strays. Sorry." Riza said, taking her attention away from the dog and to The Flame Alchemist's unfinished paperwork. Kain's face fell into a frown, until a new voice spoke up.

"Well, then! I guess I'll have to take the little fella! You're just lucky that I love dogs!" The owner of the voice extended her arms and took the puppy out of Kain Fuery's grasp, but not before poking him in the chest. The touch sent an electric sensation throughout Kain's body. He started to look at her, really look at her, and blushed. She had beautiful brown, curly hair that reached her shoulders. She was wearing an outfit that complimented her slim figure, a dazzling purple tank top, black skinny jeans, and black combat boots. Kain saved her eyes for last, and his breath was taken away. He couldn't tear his eyes away from her gorgeous brown ones. 'How many poor men have fallen victim to her charm?' Fuery wondered.

Roy Mustang smirked. "Really? I LOVE DOGS TOO!" he bellowed. Riza flirtatiously giggled, and the girl just smiled, not getting the inside joke. "Why don't we discuss some more similarities over dinner?" Roy asked in a womanizing tone.

'NO!' Kain thought, 'Don't fall for that, that womanizer!'

The beautiful girl looked away from her new pet, gave Mustang a dirty look, and introduced herself. "I'm Carly Neal, The Silver Lining Alchemist, by the way."

'Ah, Carly. What a lovely name.' Fuery thought to himself. "I'm Sergeant Major Kain Fuery. It's nice to meet you Carly." Carly stared at him intensely, she seemed to be analyzing his face. Kain began to feel uncomfortable, "Uh..." he mumbled.

"Oh! Sorry about that! It's just that… your face reminds me of a cute little puppy!" Carly confessed. Kain smiled from ear to ear, silently thanking his lucky stars that Carly loves dogs.
