It was a spring day in Boston. Maddie was practicing the lines for her play. She had secured the leading role and couldn't have been happier. Finally everything was going right, but she was about to discover a secret about her life. It had all been a lie.
After getting her lines right she put it aside and decided to work on her family tree project. Deciding that it would be really cool to have her birth certificate on it she opened the safe in her "mother's" room. She would just make a copy of the birth certificate and put it back. But as she looked at it her eyes opened wild. She thought she would faint.
Baby's name "Madeline Carrianne Martin". Mother's name "Carri Martin". Father's name "Kurt Martin" What! How the heck could this be?
She was adopted? Carri was her mother? That meant that Zack and Cody were her little brothers. She stormed outside and into the hotel right across the street from the house. "Hi sweet thang," Zack greeted her.
Ew, she thought to herself. Still she managed her composer and laughed at her little brother's line and softly ruffled his hair. Then she put went into the lounge where Carri was rehearsing. "WE NEED TO TALK," she told her. "Okay," Carri said thinking Maddie had a problem with boys or something.
"How long did you plan to hide it from me," Maddie asked, "the fact that you're my mother I mean" Carri sighed and sat Maddie down. She didn't even try to deny it. "Kurt and I were sixteen and seventeen retrospectively when he had you. We were too young to raise a baby"
"Did you ever love me" "Oh Maddie," Carri said gently her eyes filling with tears, "I loved you from second I found out I was pregnant with you. So did your father. But we wanted you to have a life we could never give you. Not being raised by a seventeen year old mother and a sixteen year old father with nothing to offer you but their love.
"We let the Fitzpattricks adopt you because they loved you as much as we did and they had the money to support you and raise you." Maddie's head was reeling but she realized something. No matter how complicated things would get, and they would get complicated, she was lucky. She had four parents that loved her as well as two new little brothers. One that liked to call her sweet thang…oh now!
