I Love You Really

River made her way into her and the Doctor's bedroom- she'd gotten a bit wet on the way back to the Tardis and wanted a shower to freshen up.

The Professor showered, and got changed into a pair of pyjamas. Wrapping a robe around herself, she made her way into the console room.

Her husband was there, sat on one of the seats. He was dozing.

River grinned and sat next to him, leaning forward to kiss him on the lips. "Hello, Sweetie." She whispered against him.

His eyes fluttered open and he smiled at her. "Hello, my darling."

She snuggled against him. "Hi."

"I like your outfit." He said. River was wearing a purple pyjama top, pink pyjama bottoms, and a red dressing gown- a change from her usual attire.

"When it's just me and you I don't mind dressing like this- I'm tired anyway." River yawned.

He kissed her forehead. "River..."

"Hmm?'

"I am sorry, you know. For ruining our date." He said, looking down at his shoes.

"It's okay." She kissed his cheek.

"Really?" His face lit up.

"Yes, really." She bopped him on the nose.

He grinned. "Well, in that case..." He continued, picking her up bridal style.

"Sweetie, what're you doing?" She chuckled.

"If I can't take you on a date using the Tardis, the least I can do is set up something in it." The Doctor replied.

"Oh my love, you don't have to."

He gazed down at her. "But River, I'd like to." He smiled tenderly.

"Okay." She beamed back at him.

He carried her into one of their living room. It had a red carpet, Tardis blue sofas and yellow walls. There was a TV, and several photos of the Doctor and his wife dotted around on various tables, and some artefacts that River had collected on her travels. There was a crackling log fire burning in one corner- all in all, it was very cosy.

The Doctor placed River down on one of the sofas. "Wait there." He said, kissed her gently, and hurried off.

River sat up, put her reading glasses on, and picked up the book that she was currently reading from the coffee table.

Her husband came in a few minutes later, wearing a Tardis blue dressing gown and boxers, along with a black pair of slippers.

"Hmm, hello Sweetie." River smiled appreciatively.

He set the tray down carefully and sat down next to her.

River snuggled into his arms. "Doctor?"

"Yes?" He asked, with a mouthful of Jammie Dodgers.

"I love you, you idiot." She grinned, kissing him on cheek.

"I love you too." He mumbled.

River took a sip of her cup of tea and dunked a chocolate biscuit into it and then proceeded to eat it.

"Not my favourite combination." Her husband complained, and wrinkled his nose.

"How can you not like chocolate biscuit and tea together? You daft old man." She beamed as he wrapped an arms around her and pulled her close. "Mind the tea!"

"It just doesn't go." He conceded.

"Hmm, saying that I'm not a fan of Jammie Dodgers." River shrugged, taking another bite of her biscuit and setting her cup down on the coffee table.

"We're so different..." He said, setting his cup down too and stroking her face gently.

"But we fit." She finished for him, a smile on her face.

"Exactly." He agreed.

The couple stayed like that for a few moments, gazing into each other's eyes.

River pulled her gaze from the Doctor's, and nestled into him.

They stayed like that for a while, content in each other's company. These were the moments that they treasured the most- after all, when you're an adventure-seeking time traveller, there's not much time to relax with the love of your life.
