The Mills family were happy enough enough. They lived a modest life. They had food on their table. They had clothes to wear. They lived pleasant lives. Joseph had dark brown hair and bright blue eyes. He had a hearty laugh and was a friend of everyone in the town. He worked selling the grain on his farm and he was deeply in love with his wife Ida, who loved him in return. Ida was a beautiful woman of hair the colour of the sun that fell to her waist in soft curls. He had pale skin and brown eyes, which turned a hazel colour in the sunlight. She was beautiful and adored by everyone who met her, full of love and light. And this love produced their two beautiful daughters whom they loved and cherished more than anything. Their names were Cora and Margurite. Margurite was the prettier of the two, with her mothers beautiful golden curls and sea green eyes. Her skin was fair and pleasant to be around. Cora however and black waves she had not yet grown into, and dark brown eyes. She however, inherited her father's cunning intelligence. On this sunny day, both girls were outside helping with the gardening. Margurite wore a yellow sundress and a floppy straw hat. She was on her hands and knees struggling with a hard root. Cora was sitting under a tree and reading on of her father's books. "Hey Cora" Margurite asked with a tinkling laugh "Help me with this weed wont you?" Cora looked up. She loved her sister with all her heart, but when she looked at her, she saw all the beauty that she did not have. A bubbling feeling built up inside her. Jealousy. She pushed this away. This was not her sister's fault. She had not asked for this, and Cora would not blame her baby sister. Not for this, not for anything. She smiled and got up. She lightly pushed her sister out of the way. "Not strong enough Meggie?" she teased. Margurite huffed and Cora laughed. "I should be" Margurite said. "I have enough love." Cora looked up puzzled. What does love have to do with this Meggie?" she asked. Margurite laughed. "Love is strength silly, didn't you know?" Cora rolled her eyes at her sister's childish logic. Margurite sat on the swing tied to one of the higher branches of the tree and began swinging back and forth whilst Cora struggled with the weed. Suddenly the plant uprooted and with a startled cry, Cora tumbled backwards. Margurite jumped off of the swing and hurried to her older sister. Cora sat up and stared up into her sister's worried eyes. She began to laugh and Margurite did too, wiping the dirt of Cora's nose. The laughter slowly subsided and the girl sat in silence. "We should go inside Meggie" Cora said. Margurite jumped to her feet and ran back to fetch her shoes which had been discarded earlier. Cora slowly followed to retrieve her book. Both girls hurried inside as the sun set slowly behind them.
