Emma looked up from her latest report, her cup of cocoa halfway to her lips when a shadow loomed over her. "I'm on call," she said to the figure who blocked her light as she steeled herself for an argument.
"Have you forgotten what day it is?" Regina asked, her eyebrow raised. She moved her hands to her hips for a fraction of a second before they fell again to her sides.
Emma knew thye answer to this, but she also knew that the mayor was asking if she knew the signifigance of the day. She searched her mind for a moment and then it clicked her her what the mayor meant. "Ah," the sheriff said. She glanced over to the clock on the diner's wall. If they left right then, they wouldn't miss it.
"YEah," Regina said in a tone that let the blonde know what she thought of her intelligence. If it were any other day of the week, Emma would have been offended. Instead, she watched as Regina walked out of the diner and onto the sidewalk, obviously expecting Emma to be pretty much right behind her. The sheriff put her hand up. Ruby nodded and after tapping the counter with the newest order, she came by with the check.
"Whatcha do now?" Ruby asked with an amused look upon her face.
"I almost forgot that we're supposed to have TV night tonight."
"I didn't take the mayor as a TV watcher."
"She's not, usually, but I was watching an episode of Xena with Henry a couple of months ago, and after chewing me out because of the violence and scantily clad women in the show, she found herself getting hooked on it. I love it because it speaks to the both of us, especially in that episode when we meet Xena's son."
"Spoilers," Ruby said.
"Sorry."
"No problem. It's not like I plan to start watching the show, however, with the scantily clad women you mentioned, I just might change my mind. I'm still in shock that Mayor Mills is hooked on that show of all shows," Ruby said.
Emma dug into her back pocket for her wallet as she said, "I think the horn music of the theme riles her up a little bit." She handed the waitress two five dollar bills. "It's cute. No, you keep it," she said, when Ruby tried to dole out her change.
"Thanks," Ruby said, putting the money in her apron pocket.
"Miss Swan," came an irritated voice from the door.
"On my way," Emma responded easily, throwing a 'Look' to Ruby. "Gotta go," she said to the younger woman.
"Battle on," Ruby replied with a wink. She watched as the couple left the diner together, shaking her head in amusement as she often did when it came to Emma and Regina. How the pair continued to 'work' was one of Storybrook's many mysteries.
