Seeing Beyond

By: M14Mouse

Summary: Everyone else sees a homunculi, she just sees Selim.

Disclaimer: Don't own them

Prompt: Don't Forget

Everyone told her no.

Of course, they gave her reasons. For any logical person, they were very good reasons.

Lists and lists of good reasons and good intentions that she shouldn't forget.

They are evil. They can't be controlled. Look…Look what they done. They killed. They harmed. They brought about ruin. They nearly destroyed the city. Countless more before that.

Look…look what they are made of.

Human sacrifices…the lost of innocent lives. They are unnatural and unclean. They aren't fit to walk among them. They should be wiped off the face of the globe.

She started to tune them out at one point.

Nag…Nag…Nag…All of them.

OF course, she wouldn't forget. She wasn't a half brain fool.

They probably thought it was because she was an old woman. They acted like that she didn't know any better.

But she did know better. They forgot that she was there. She saw the deaths and the pain. She saw the solders and innocence lying in the streets. She saw the destruction and the ruin. She saw everything.

But they weren't there when Selim called her ma on that little tiny pillow. He was merely a speck. He was no bigger than a small pup and he was calling her ma.

It still warmed her heart just thinking about it.

They didn't see it when he tried to walk for the first time. Dear lord, he spent more time on his butt than on his feet. But he was so proud of himself when he got there. There was the biggest grin on his face as he wrapped his arms around her.

No…No…she was going to cry. Just something in the air.

They didn't see it when he decided that his mashed potatoes were much better as wall art than food. Or he decided that forks and spoons were too much trouble and his hands were a much better way of eating food.

It took her forever to break him of that habit.

They didn't see it when the neighborhood children made him cry with their cruel words. But that incident gave his best friends…a pair of brothers and a little girl down the street. They stood up to him and adopted him into their little group. They were a little group of monkeys…always in the trees and having adventures. Or when they decided to adopt a cat and took turns on trying to hide it in their respect homes.

It was adorable even if the cat did destroy a vase. No, she didn't take that many pictures of their weekly adventures.

Only every other week…

They didn't see it when she had to read Good Night, Moon for the millionth time. Or that he loved to paint and hang his artwork on the fridge and the walls. She is surprised that she can still open the door with so many drawings and magnets hanging on it.

Secretly, she didn't mind it. Personally, her favorite is one of him and her and the house.

They didn't see it when he gave every animal he met a name and remembered them. No…no…mommy that is Dave and that is Spot. Dear lord, she didn't know how he kept track. He loved to watch the birds outside of his window. He loved to play catch with the dog or more like Selim throw the ball, the dog ran away with it, and he chased after him.

No, they didn't see that….the only thing that they saw was a homunculi.

No, she saw something else. Something much more important.

She just saw her little boy.
