A- Apple Pie
Summary: Ed never knew that an apple pie could taste so sweet and bitter at the same time. (Mangaverse)
She was crying.
Her tears slid down her face as her body racked with sobs and all Edward wanted to do was to comfort her and tell her everything was all right. But, he didn't.
He never really liked the sight of women crying especially after he had found his mother doing it in her room after their father had left them. Every tear his mother had shed intensified the hate toward his father for abandoning them.
The same was happening now except that the target of his hate was toward himself. His best friend, Winry, was crying and he did nothing about it. He did not offer any words that could relieve her of her inner pain or give her a comforting hug.
All he did was eat the pie.
As he picked up a slice he thought about the source of her tears and realized the reason for her tears was his fault too.
Maes Hughes, the man with the daughter complex and also the man who had been practically a father figure to him and Al, had died and it was all his fault.
He hadn't directly killed him but Ed felt like he did. He had gotten Hughes too involved with his own personal mission and for that Hughes had paid the unfair price with his life.
Just thinking how little Elicia would never get to see her father again and the tears that Ms. Gracia had shed when they walked out the door, made Ed's heart feel even heavier with hate and guilt.
However, he showed no expression that would reveal his inner turmoil like the girl in front of him.
All he did was eat the pie.
When he was done with the slice he said, "It's delicious", as she kept crying, hoping that maybe even the smallest compliment would cheer her up even a little bit, but the effort was futile as the room was filled with the ongoing sobs of Winry Rockbell and the small noises of Edward Elrics' chews on the apple pie.
Even though he had said the pie was delicious, he had lied. Under different circumstances, the pie would truly have been delicious but to Ed, the apple pie had been sweet and bitter, mixed with the salty tears of women and the blood of an innocent man.
Author's Note: Hi! So as you can see this is my first fanfic for Fullmetal Alchemist and I really wanted to try one with the alphabet. I know there are other stories out there with the same concept, but I really wanted to try it. So, yeah. This was the first chapter with the letter A corresponding the word with apple pie. I know this is a really short chapter and the last sentence probably doesn't make sense, but I was trying to give the scene a deeper meaning but I might have failed terribly.
For those who read the manga, you'd probably understand the chapter since this scene only happened in the manga. For those who don't, I realize the chapter may not make sense but it's based off chapter 36 of the manga which is around the time when Ed, Al, and Winry find out about Hughes' death.
