"You're so cute."
"What?"
Spitfire laughed at the younger boy's expression. He didn't care in the slightest for the age difference, although it was technically illegal to have the relationship with the boy that he did. He leaned forward and put arm around the boy's shoulders so that he could pull him onto the couch.
"It's true, Nue. You can be absolutely adorable."
"Shut up," Nue's face turned and interesting shade of pink.
Spitfire just grinned and rested his chin on top of Nue's head, much to the younger's aggravation.
"Stop it," he tried to push him off.
The red-head laughed and pulled him closer, pulling him up until they were both lying on the couch. Continuing to fidget, Nue poked Spitfire in the side with a frown.
"Take it back."
"What?"
"Don't call me cute," he scowled, "I'm not a kid."
Spitfire was silent, amused by the irony. He nodded absent-mindedly and looked out the window of the apartment. His job paid well, but Nue rarely let him do anything for him, so he did his best to get him more practical things. Like the capes that the purple-haired boy always seemed to be wearing. The result was that their anniversary of sorts was coming up and Spitfire had no idea what to do.
Nue looked at the fire king with some apprehension. He had been distracted for several days and, although he would never admit it, he was beginning to worry. It was unusual for him to be so quiet. He was looking blankly out the window.
"Spitfire?"
"Hm?"
"What's wrong?"
Spitfire snapped to attention focused his attention on Nue's face, "Nothing."
"You're acting weird."
"Am I," he asked quietly.
"Yeah. Now tell me the truth."
"Nothing. I was just thinking."
Nue looked at him, trying to decipher any hidden message. He still didn't believe him. Spitfire was being far too quiet for there to be nothing going on.
"Still don't believe me? It's been one year."
Thinking back, the purple-haired boy tried to think of what happened a year ago. He couldn't come up with anything.
"Since we started dating, stupid."
"Oh."
Nue frowned, feeling very idiotic for not remembering something that most people considered so important. Although he now knew this much, he wasn't sure why the older man was being so distant. He frowned when he tried to think of possible reasons. He tried not to think that he may not care for him anymore.
"You never like it when I try to do anything for you."
"Wha?"
He looked wide-eyed at Spitfire for a few moments before realizing that he had just told him the reason behind him strange behavior. The red-head smiled at him and kissed his forehead.
"So cute."
"Shut up!"
"Love you too."
