A/N: Confession time! LL&D is on hiatus because I'm failing French and while I promised LCTD I'd try harder I found myself scribbling this in my notebook during class.
I broke a boy's heart today. He thought me hanging out with him constituted a relationship and his "in a relationship" Facebook status was apparently me…without my knowing. Sweet kid, a little odd and disillusioned, but the fact remains that I'm turning 18 (Feb. 23) and about to graduate and don't date. I set him straight this morning and in French I was feeling dark, implemented my old ways and ended up with this. I guess you can say I wrote it for him even though he probably won't ever know.
To Be a Man
What is a man?
Society says strength.
His knuckles kissed Marty's cheek.
Society says wealth.
He lives in a tin can.
Society says success.
The cold gold medal hangs around his neck.
Sasha Belov is the original BBG.
Bad Boy of Gymnastics.
He is a rogue coach.
Marches his rebels to their death.
He is surrounded by death.
His dead gymnast limp in his arms.
His emotionally dead father.
The light stolen from his eyes.
But only when he looks at him.
Only him.
The pain of his soldiers leaves him paralyzed.
Pain leads to death.
It leaves him scared.
Running scared.
And so he leaves.
He leaves Kaylie in a hospital bed.
Clinging to life, beaten down by her lies.
He leaves Lauren consumed by her want.
To please Daddy, following too closely in empty footsteps.
He leaves Emily in jail.
A little girl in a cruel world, who robs as life robbed her.
Lastly, he leaves Payson. His Star. His Redemption.
He leaves her with the ghost of his lips against hers.
And tears in her eyes.
What is a man?
A man does not leave.
He stays.
A man does not turn his back.
He faces reality with swallowed fear.
Sasha Belov is not a man.
Not to society.
Not to his father.
Not to the ones who love him in spite of this.
Not to himself.
Just a lost soul who wants to fade.
To be forgotten.
Not a man.
Nothing.
