This little ficlet was a quick exercise on voice for me. I really wasn't sure I could pull off such an unproper mode of speech. Here's hoping it worked!

Firefly belongs to our brilliant Joss. Not me. Le sigh

It ain't easy turnin' a bitty 5 x 7 foot berth into a home. No it surely ain't. 'Specially not when a certain Cap'n was all sorts of opposed to the thought of color and the like. Still, I like to think I've done it. Serenity helped, her bein' all shiny on her own. My girl sure was pretty when I met her, but she weren't too colorful to begin with.

Ma sent me off with a mess of pillows and blankets and the like, so's I wouldn't get cold or nothing. And most of 'em were nice and bright. Once they were all laid out on my bed, the little berth looked all sorts of cheerful. And once I got my door all fixed up, I reckon it looked right shiny.

Next, I started on the kitchen. Seemed like the nice thing to do. Folks like a room to feel all friendly when they eat. Least I always do. Cap'n seemed to think the flowers were awful girly, but I like 'em. And once the paint dried, there weren't much he could do about it.

I didn't need to add much at all down in the engine room. I felt right at home that first minute with Bester down on the floor. Nice as Bester was, he sure weren't what kept my attention after. I hardly believed my luck when Cap'n said I could have her. All I really needed there was just a little hammock. I sleep there more often than my own room. Just listenin' to her soothes me right to sleep like music.

I've been workin' on the rest of Serenity, little by little. It's not like anybody's gonna let me into their rooms, but I got ideas for the rest. 'Til then, strangers might not see her for the shiny girl she is. But I still tell ya, of all the ships in the Verse, mine's the nicest.

Review if you liked it! I may try to turn this into a series. Not sure.
