Abandoned

A/N: This is an oneshot that I did for an AU chatplay universe, for my friends Zexion (also known as Zexy) and Lea. Angeal's mentioned actions were portrayed by Zexy in the chatplay. Zack's actions and emotions were portrayed by me. The actions mentioned about Genesis and Sephiroth were portrayed by Lea.

There are a few key things you need to know about this AU:

-Sephiroth is back from the dead and mostly sane thanks in part to Zack.

-Zack and Angeal are also back from the dead.

-Myde is Zack's adopted son, here aged 12.

-Lucrecia was given another chance at life after meeting Sephiroth.

-An experiment with the ultimate goal of creating a super-soldier like Sephiroth that is more inclined to follow orders resulted in Lys, Sephiroth's full sister. (And when I say full, I mean Jenova and all.)

That's all you really need to know. Enjoy~

Summary: He would never get over it.

Pairings: None.

Warnings: Sad. AU.

Disclaimer: I own no part of the Compilation of Final Fantasy VII.

Abandoned

It hurt so much…

Every day Angeal grew further away. At first Zack thought it was just a reaction to the not-so-nice wake-up call he had given in a fit of his usual enthusiasm, but now…

It was just like then. Just like it. More so when Angeal started shoving him out of the way. And then Angeal actually slapped him when he came in to wake up his former mentor…

It hurt.

It was then that Zack started drawing parallels. Angeal was drawing away from them all, but seemed to be harsher about it on him than on the others. Maybe he had done something wrong. Angeal clearly didn't want him anymore… but what was it?

Maybe it was because he had been spending so much time around Sephiroth… Lately the attacks of insanity were getting better, but Angeal still refused to be around Sephiroth after he had finally admitted to his problem.

If this was the case, then Zack felt even worse than he already had. Someone had to be Sephiroth's support, with Genesis arguing with his deity and Angeal withdrawn. But if it was why Angeal was treating him like he had back then, Zack would be devastated.

More than he already was.

As the days moved on and Angeal looked at him less and less, Zack's nightmares grew worse. That had traumatized him more than he cared to show. Now he dreamed of Nibelheim, of running, of killing Angeal… But last night's, after confronting Angeal, was the worst.

He had killed Angeal. Not because Angeal had asked him to, but because Angeal did not want him anymore, and Zack couldn't kill himself.

And now here he was, sobbing in Angeal's arms after Lucrecia had taken Myde and left to give him a check-up.

Angeal kept apologizing. Saying that Zack had done nothing wrong. That he wasn't going to leave him again. That he wasn't going to leave any of them again.

And as much as Zack trusted Angeal… He couldn't believe the words.

Angeal's actions over the past year and a half had woken up the old trauma he had just started really getting over, and had created new trauma on top of it.

Zack would never quite get over it. Even with Myde's help. Genesis would be too busy helping Angeal to bother with the 'Puppy'. Sephiroth would be in overdrive trying to protect Lucrecia and baby Lys. Angeal would be too busy recovering on his own.

The fear that he was abandoned again… it would always lurk there.

Always.
