The soothing sound of the ocean waves drifted in through the open window, but it fell upon deaf ears. The figure in the bed was still, and her mind was in a far away place. Her breathing was steady, but her soul was immersed in a memory.

"I'm gonna need the other one." His voice was soft. Elizabeth placed her foot, wrapped in the boot, on the rock beside him. He slowly allowed his eyes to travel up her leg, then to her face. The wind was blowing her hair, but it couldn't make the loving smile on her lips. Will knew that she wasn't going to make his leaving easy.
Slowly, be removed his boot, his hands lingering on her skin. But he needed to feel her, and began to caress her leg. Nothing would last for ten years. But he could try.
Elizabeth's eyes closed at the feeling of her lover's touch, and she revealed in him, and the warm sunlight streaming across the island. But the moment had to end.
"It's nearly sunset." Her eyes open again, as if to check for herself. The smile faded as harsh reality came creeping back in. The ship- Will's ship- was outlined on the horizon, serving as a reminder that their time together had to end.
Standing up, Will walked over to the cropping of rocks where he had placed the chest. Elizabeth followed reluctantly, trying not to show the tears that were beginning to gather in her eyes.
"It's always belonged to you." Will's eyes remained fixed upon the chest, and then he picked it up, and turned around to face her again. He stared into her eyes, as if trying to memorize her, every line, every plane. "Will you keep it safe?"
Elizabeth nodded, and said, "Yes." She walked forward, at that moment not caring about the chest. She only cared about Will. Placing her hands on tops of his, she repeated, "Yes."
They stared at each other, as though they wouldn't see the other for ten years. But it was true for them. Almost unconsciously, they both leaned in, almost touching. The moment was tender, loving, but riddled with sadness, angst, and despair. They had both known this moment would come. But now that it was here, it was unbearable.
Will turned away, unable to prolong the agony, trying to make this as easy as possible. But Elizabeth wouldn't allow that. She couldn't.
"Will!" Placing the chest on a rock, she ran to him. The pair embraced, desperately. When they separated, the tears were beginning to flow, and her heart felt like it was breaking apart, being wrenched into two pieces. Will may have lost his heart, be he had taken hers.
"Keep a weather eye on the horizon."
And with that he turned away. And the sun set, and she was alone.

Elizabeth jerked awake, her heart pounding. The warm glow of the Caribbean sunlight had disappeared, and she was in her small, dark bedroom. She lifted her hands to her face, to discover the tracks left by the tears. No matter how many times she had that dream, or rather, memory, the heart-clenching despair never lessened.
She allowed herself to briefly remember Will, and his face, and his speech, and his everything. She slowly lay back down as the tears resurfaced, and the break in her heart ached anew. But behind the haze of lost love, she knew that soon, he would return. To her.
