Lockdown
"1613, 1614" the discarded gloves flew towards the biohazard bin with a flair born of pure relief. 5 days straight in the isolation lab analysing potentially hazardous samples had Janet more than ready to call it a day.
With one last glance round to ensure everything was in order she finally made her way to the exit.
Swipe beep, thunk. Stunned, she took a moment to realise what happened.
"Damn Door"
Swipe, beep
Swipe, beep
Swipe, beep, swipe, beep, swipe beep...
"Damn it"
Sssswwwwwiiiiiippppppeeeeeee, beep, kick, "Ouch"
A scratch in the magnetic strip catches her eye.
"This is not happening"
Now What?
Beep thunk, "Ouch", beep, beep...
A lithe form wriggled its way out from under the desk to peer at the screen's read out.
"Security alert, unauthorised access attempt, level 26 room 12C"
'12C? That's the iso lab Janet's working in today.' A one-handed flurry of keystrokes brought forth the appropriate camera footage even as the other reached for the phone only to halt as eyes registered a familiar figure landing a surprisingly solid kick to the door. "Ohh, that had to hurt"
Another flurry of keystrokes silenced the alert and turned up the sound... Sam smiled at what she heard.
Impulse Control
Swipe, beep "Damn piece of outdated technology!" Swipe, beep, thump.
Swipe, beep "State of the art security... huh!" Swipe, beep, kick.
Swipe, beep "Useless chunk of plastic." Swipe, beep, thump.
Swipe, beep "Never leave home with out it!" chuckle. Swipe, beep, sigh.
Swipe, beep "Cutting edge facility." Swipe, beep, push.
Swipe, beep "Chance of a life time opportunity." Swipe, beep, thunk.
Swipe, beep "See the Stargate, travel the universe..." Swipe, beep, kick.
Swipe, beep "But only if you make it out the damn door." Swipe, beep, shove.
Swipe, beep, swipe, beep, swipe, beep, swipe, beep, "Arrrgh Damnit!"
Turn, slide, pout.
Rescue me
A small form slouches at the foot of the door. Head back, one hand propping up the tired body while the other plays restlessly with a plastic card.
"This is ridiculous, I've been here less than a month and I'm locked in an iso lab. Held hostage by a useless piece of plastic. One tiny scratch, you'd think they'd make these things more robust, but nooooooo."
"Useless piece of crap" Sigh. Eyes glare at the phone on the wall. One phone call and she'd be free. The wrong phone call and she'd be the butt of jokes for months. Sigh.
A Little Help From My Friends
Any trace of amusement Sam felt at watching her new friend's fit of temper vanished as she watched the smaller woman slide to the floor in defeat. 'Looks like my call to action'. She quickly switched off her computer and raced off towards the nearest elevator.
"Hey Janet, you about finished in there⦠I was thinking of heading off for dinner and wondered if you would like to join me"
Janet's hand paused above the phone as the welcome sound of her friend's voice came through the observation deck speakers.
"Hey Sam, good timing, I was just about to leave."
