Summary: Sometimes you just have to read in between the lines!
The Hate Letter
Namine loved Roxas and Roxas loved Namine, any fool could see that. Any fool, that is, except for Namine's father. He did not approve of the relationship his daughter was in. He did not trust any boy to go near his daughter or even so much as look as his daughter. After a few months in their relationship, Namine's father forbade Namine to see Roxas ever again.
"But daddy...!" Namine cried.
"No buts," he said. "You are not to see that Roxas boy ever again!"
"But that's not fair!" Namine cried angrily.
"It's for your own good," her father said sternly. "Now go to your room!"
"I am in my room!" Namine said angrily. "You're the one who came barging in here!"
"Then go to the living room!" he ordered.
"Fine!" Namine said and stomped off angrily toward the living room.
In one more attempt to talk to Namine, Roxas wrote her a letter. However, he did not know how to write the letter because if he tried to give it to her he would get caught by her father, and if he gave it to her in person, her father would be sure to read it and rip the letter before Namine's eyes could see it. Roxas thought long and hard about this until he finally came up with an idea. The next day Roxas went to Namine's house early in the morning to deliver the letter he had been working on last night.
"What are you doing here?" the father asked coldly.
"Hello, sir, I would like to give this letter to Namine," Roxas gestured toward the letter in his hand. "Can you see it that Namine receives it?"
"I can try," he said coldly. "But I cannot guarantee it will end up in her hands.
"Thank you," Roxas said as he left. Namine's father read the letter and stood there as he heard Namine coming down the stairs.
"Who was that?" Namine asked sleepily.
"That is none of your concerns," he said, but then hesitated. "That was Roxas."
"Roxas?!" Namine exclaimed. "Why didn't you wake me up!?"
"He only came here to give you this letter," he handed it to her. "That boyfriend of yours is really stubborn."
He walked away after giving her the letter; before he left, he said, "But if he's willing to give you letters like this and do whatever it takes for you to see it, I guess I approve...this one time."
Namine looked shocked and confused and stared at her father dazed. She read the letter and was even more confused and what it said until she saw at the bottom in Roxas' handwriting "read in between the lines." She reread the letter and smiled to herself.
1 "The great love that I have for you
2 is gone, and I find my dislike for you
3 grows every day. When I see you,
4 I do not even like your face;
5 the one thing that I want to do is to
6 look at other girls. I never wanted to
7 marry you. Our last conversation
8 was very boring and has not
9 made me look forward to seeing you again.
10 You think only of yourself.
11 If we were married, I know that I would find
12 life very difficult, and I would have no
13 pleasure in living with you. I have a heart
14 to give, but it is not something that
15 I want to give to you. No one is more
16 foolish and selfish than you, and you are not
17 able to care for me and help me.
18 I sincerely want you to understand that
19 I speak the truth. You will do me a favor
20 if you think this is the end. Do not try
21 to answer this. Your letters are full of
22 things that do not interest me. You have no
23 true love for me. Good-bye! Believe me,
24 I do not care for you. Please do not think that
25 I am still your boyfriend."
Author's note: You know the dad isn't that bad of a guy, he's just overprotective like most dads. For those of you who are a little confused at the meaning "read in between the lines," go back and reread the letter only reading the odd numbered lines. Did you get the message? If so that's great! If not, that's okay you are still awesome! Please review!
