She stood there at the side of the room staring at the two of them; they were holding each other so close while they slowly moved on the spot. For the last few years, Hermione would go to the dance to try and hangout with her friends for just a few more hours before they had to leave the next morning on the Hogwarts Express to go back home. But as soon as the slow dances hit, she would always slink off to lean against the wall and watch all of the other couples dance together.

It's our last year here at Hogwarts…I should be happy for them, thought Hermione, let them have their time together.

She watched as her best friend, Lavender Brown, was slow dancing with her boyfriend, Draco Malfoy. A couple of months back, Draco had approached Hermione and wanted to know what she thought if he had asked Lavender out. She had told him that he should totally ask her out because she kind of felt the same way about him.

As she stood there watching them dance, a sudden feeling of jealousy and loneliness came over her. She absolutely hated it when that feeling came. She had already talked to Lavender about it, and she wasn't able to give her the advice she wanted.

"Don't worry Hermione, you will find the right person for you someday," replied Lavender.

Hermione said "But, what if I never find that right person, Lavender? I hate being single, it's going to drive me nuts!"

She had even tried talking to her ex-boyfriend Ron Weasley, whom she still had feelings for, and whom she considered one of her closest friends. Of course, he told her the same thing that Lavender said. Hermione heaved a big sigh and continued to watch the other couples on the dance floor.

As the dance came to a close, only the seventh years were allowed to stay for a few more hours as they had pretty much graduated from Hogwarts and would not be returning the following year. She sat down at the closest table to her that was empty and started at the center piece, wishing that they did not have to leave. A few moments later, Lavender came over and sat down at the table with her. Lavender's eyes were bloodshot and she was crying…again. Hermione rolled her eyes; she knew what was going on. It usually happens about every other week.
