Title: Why
Author: Lala
Pairing: One-sided Shelby/Scott.
Spoilers: Since I've seen very few eps myself, only for the Pilot.
Summary: Set pre-Seduction. Shelby wonders why she's attracted to Scott. Complete.
Author's Notes: This isn't my best writing, but I've wanted to write another HG fic for the longest time. I'm sorry if this drags in parts I just can't seem to get it the way I want it. Obviously, this could really use a betaing, so if anyone's interested please leave a review. Also, if anyone has MSN and wants to chat Higher Ground or S&S, feel free to add me.
Disclaimer: None of the characters mentioned within belong to me.

At first, she'd thought it was simply attraction. He was hot. She wanted him. The fact that Queenie wanted him too just made it more fun.
She's not sure when attraction turned to jealousy but maybe when she saw that he appeared to want her back.
She continues to pursue him, just to make Jules mad. But also because she can't stop.
She's not quite sure why; she's been attracted to guys before. She's been attracted to guys before, but not like this. The idea of getting close, of actual human contact turned her off almost instantly.
But not with him. With him, the idea of his lips on hers doesn't make her tremble. She almost wants him to touch her; to play with her hair; to say he loves her. She almost wants anyone to say they love her.
But it's more than all of that; it's the little things she sees him do when he thinks no one's looking. The tenseness in his shoulders in group; the way he jumps and jerks away sometimes when Juliet touches him. The faint remnants of tears she's sure she saw one afternoon when she found him alone at the docks.
The docks. They're her place. It seems like she's the only one who's realized the tranquility they offer; they're always deserted. Except for him, just that once.
She'd been careful not to make a sound because he was sitting so still and she hadn't wanted him to go.
She'd gone and sat beside him. Not close enough to touch, but close enough that she could sometimes hear his breathing. He must have heard hers too because he had suddenly looked up and for one moment their eyes met and they were the same; he looked how she pretended not to feel. Lost. Scared. Broken.
And she wonders if he saw that in her too because she couldn't have hidden that from him, no matter how much she would have wanted. But then he'd gone and she'd sat where he'd been, hoping some part of him had been left behind to hold her.
So maybe that's why. Maybe that's why she can't stop practically stalking him; not because he's hot which is what she'd say if anyone asks. Because maybe he could understand her. Maybe he could make her appreciate touch again.
If only he'd want her back.
