In a Family Way
Part 1
Fujino Shizuru was accustomed to sleepless nights. Late study sessions, and discussions had kept her busy in college. Strategy meetings with attorneys and arbitrators had taken up most of her evenings after graduation. Even finding time to be intimate with her life partner and one true love, Kuga Natsuki, while enjoyable, seemed to rob her of much-needed slumber.
Yet, this was a whole new ball of yarn. Her own body was the cause of her insomnia this time. Or rather what was growing within. As Natsuki snored on, Shizuru let her hand slip beneath the bed sheets, past full breasts to the growing round of her stomach.
"Baby bump," was what trendy people called it; a name Shizuru found spectacularly inadequate. After all, something that managed to deny her sleep any given night and promised to change the very fabric of her life was no mere bump in the road.
The pale haired woman stared at the glowing numbers of the bedside clock.4:00. With a sigh, Shizuru turned to look upon her sleeping companion; only to find a pair of wide, green eyes.
"Did I wake you?" she asked.
"No, I was just counting your breaths," Natsuki answered.
"How many did you reach?"
"Seven hundred twenty-two." Natsuki reached out to touch Shizuru's face. She alowed her hand to travel down her lover's neck, between her breasts to the slight rise of her belly. The lighted clock caught a faint gleam of gold on one of the fingers.
"Natsuki. What is it?"
"Shizuru, are you sure this is really what you wanted?"
"Ara! Worried about me getting fat?"
"I'm not joking here," Natsuki pouted. "You didn't have to be the one to-"
A finger to her lips silenced her.
"It is a woman's joy to bear children for her beloved," Shizuru smiled.
"OK, that's outdated even for you," her brunette lover said.
"Forgive me for being born to such a traditional household. But my mother does get things right sometimes. Though I'm certain she didn't have this in mind when she said it."
They both shared a quiet laugh and Shizuru settled into Natsuki's waiting arms.
"Seven hundred fifty-nine," Natsuki murmured bringing a grin to Shizuru's lips.

Author's Note
This is the first in my warm and fuzzy family series. In the coming chapters, I hope to chronicle Natsuki and Shizuru's journey through pregnancy, childbirth, day care and potty training. And perhaps, even beyond that. This is a nice change of pace from all the drama, so R&R to your heart's content.
