I don't know how these two were able to breath in the same room when the air pressure must have been so heavy.
Disclaimer: I don't own anything from the Who universe. No matter how much I want to.
A time lord came with a few advantageous qualities that the human race lacked. A higher sense of smell, sight, taste. Even their brains could unlock the secrets of the world. A time lord always sensed the passage of time. The tick going tock. A time lord could, if he wanted, hear the blood pumping through his veins. He could hear the rustle of the leaves in a distance and spot the tiniest tear in his TARDIS. With two hearts came great emotion. A time lord is capable of holding the equivalent feelings of whole population. A time lord cares deeply and a time lord also would willingly give up his life for the sake of unimportant people. But of course, in the end, there is only one time lord willing to do that.
The Doctor hadn't fully understood the magnitude his brown eyed girl had on him. The way his two hearts pitter pattered a bit faster when she rested her eyes on him. The pout that made him think of the dent in the Orwens Nebula. The laughter that vibrated off his own skin. He credited it all his previous self. The bow tie with the chin. Who was more boyish than most of his other regenerations. Who took her adoration for granted in some way. After all, River was mostly on his mind. But he couldn't even deny it to himself that he did shamelessly flirt with her. Thinking it all to be innocent. Well the days of innocence were over, he was older. He was different. She was hit with the sudden impact of reality that her bow tie flirtatious friend no longer existed but replaced with a stern, sarcastic, older silver haired of a man. Who hated physical contact. It was like being hit in the face with a bat while not paying attention in tennis. Her feelings were on a roller coaster. The mixed signals confused her. And she wasn't the only one.
The Doctor battled with the desire to discover her more. Did her hair really feel as soft as it looked? Were the lighter ones made of light? Did they weigh differently if he tugged on them? Why did the nape of her neck look so mesmerizing? Were the stars always caught in her eyes? Did her laughter also vibrate off her chest? Was that dimple on the lower side of her mouth as delicate as it looked? What would she do if he just grabbed her and kissed her? If he trailed a line of kisses from her jaw to her collarbone?
Every touch from her sent his nerves in a haywire. They lingered like ghosts leaving hallowed touches in their path. He yearned for the burning markings on his hands that only his eyes could see.
Many a days, he wanted to pull his hair from frustration. When would this dance end? Was he doomed to tread carefully around lest he scares her off? Was it all a big imagination he concocted in his head? Did the fire burn in the pit of her belly as well? Was she as terrified as he was to hold her every time they just escaped danger?
Did her dreams involve her losing him? Did she also wake up drenched in sweat fumbling blindly to call him in the middle of the night just to hear his voice? To make sure he was safe and alive? Did her eyes follow him when he wasn't looking? Did she spend hours and days conjuring up the courage to say what she always wanted to say but never was able to? Did she rejoice when she was able to make him proud? Make him happy? Did her knees nearly give away when she saw him back unharmed? Did she need him? Was he like oxygen for her? Could she never see a life without him in it?
A time lord is many things. But this particular time lord was unaware of the sky shattering love that his companion held for him. He didn't know that all the answers to all his questions would be: Yes, a million times yes.
