Never Stopped Falling

A/N: I know it's been awhile, but I've been a bit busy lately. This however, is my first decent piece of het. However, take note of this now. This is the Kingdom Hearts universe, so I have taken creative liscence with certain things. They will NOT be the way they were in FF7 and FF8. And there will be a hint of shonen ai. Don't bitch at me about it. I know Zack dated Aeris. Flame me and I'll laugh at you. Now you can read.

Nine years later he could still feel her heart beating against his own. He had loved her, there was no doubt about that. The woman had taught him how to love despite the odds. Her voice still lingered in the back of his mind, soft hands still tracing delicate patterns on his back. It had been nine whole years since she'd died, and yet her smiles and laughs were still fresh.

Aeris suspected she had become a heartless along with the others of his world, but with a heart as beautiful and enormous as hers she surely would have had a nobody somewhere. But she didn't, Organization XIII was composed of only thirteen members, only one of them being female, and he refused to believe that the woman he had loved could have turned into that sadistic creature.

Cloud had put forth his quiet suggestion that she was a dusk. He'd expressed his disbelief at this suggestion, if Sora had a nobody than surely SHE could? He had chuckled quietly, cocking his blonde head at him.

"You aren't the only one who's lost someone with a heart worth a thousand heartless."

And he'd walked away, glancing over his shoulder at the other man and offering a small, out of character smile.

Tifa had told him about Zack the next day. The man who could make Cloud laugh and smile, a man with a heart so big that Jenova herself wouldn't be able to destroy it. In the end he'd destroyed himself, protecting Cloud from a Neo Heartless that Cloud hadn't seen. Cloud had watched him disappear. He seemed a lot like her. Big heart, always living by it.

The next time he had seen Cloud, he'd told him he was sorry. Cloud stared at him for a moment, smiling seconds later and shaking his head. Whenever Cloud smiled it always seemed so bitter, never completely real. He had told Leon to forget about it, and that he was still searching. If he found his nobody and his heartless who was to say it wouldn't bring back after all?

Leon didn't really think that would work, but he kept it to himself as Cloud walked towards the bailey.

It was hard work, restoring Hollow Bastion. Everywhere he looked he saw her smiling at him, pink lips pulled into that familiar, beautiful grin that pained him, the little white dress that she had been wearing when they were attacked clinging to pale thighs. But every time he caught a glimpse she would grin wider, place a finger to her lips and fade away.

He wasn't sure if it was insanity or some ghostly apparition come to haunt him.

She still lived on within him, coming to life in his dreams and his memories. And yet, he could swear that he could still feel her heart out there somewhere.
