Chapter 1: girl of hope.
Marissa had always been a fan of t.v. Her favorite shoe was gargoyles and ever since her parents death it was one of few things that made her life tolerable. She looked at the book her grandmother had gave her when she died. Marissa brushed her hair as she heard the pounding on the door she never know her real father but her step one
She really wished she could leave and that wish was granted one day when she disappeared and she appeared on the streets of New York she got her wish but unfortunately she had no intention of going to an orphanage.
-New York 1979 Marissa's age 6-
She was sitting on the ground of her hideout panting slightly as she watched the old man run past her.
She sighed then she noticed a statue that was in her hideout she was a little confused but she remembered what demona looked like. So she sat there reading her book and gearding the statue. as dawn arrived the kids came by she herself was only 5 now so she couldn't do much but she hated the big kids that destroyed others art just because they could and we'll she didn't want Demona to die.
They had bats and got ready to break the statue only for marissa to get in the way.
"Get out of the way we wanna break that eyesore." The older kid said angrily. Marissa shook her head the kid with angry and hit her with the bat as the other kid joined in. D
She heard crying of sorts and yelling in front of her. "This is what you get for stopping us from breaking that ugly statue."
That was when her eyes landed on the injured small girl. She glared at the boys and growled at them
"What did you do?" she angrily asked.
The boys ran I fear from the injured little girl it was a bit shocking but once they ran Marissa got up the best she could, blood pooling from a few places. She had a busted lip and a broken rib or arm but she was ok considering how painful it was.
"You're hurt," said Demona while scooping her up. "Let me take you to the hospital."
"No no no." She quickly said it was surprising how gentle Demona was being did she figure out she was the one to save her. She got a look that made her think Demona was mad. "I don't like social workers and if I go to a hospital they'll make me go to an orphanage or something."
"What do you mean?" Demona asked, a little confused. "Don't you have a family they could call?"
Marissa shook her head honestly she didn't even know if she did her step father would just ignore the call and her mom would never get there. One of the reasons she wished for this.
Demona started to feel bad for the girl. Something she found strange because the child was human. But something about this child felt different than others. She felt special.
"I'll treat you at my home," Demona told her. "I just hope it will be enough."
Marissa smiled happily doing her best to hug Demona to show her affection that she had probably lost so many years ago. "Thank you."
"Your welcome, little one," said Demona, smiling warmly as she climbed up a building. "My name is Demona. What is yours?"
"Marissa." Marissa smiled her eyes were getting heavy and she was a bit tired. Demons noticed.
"Don't sleep. You might have an concussion." Marissa rubbed her eyes and nodded she would do her best to stay awake.
Once she was high enough, Demona spread her wings and glided away. She landed near her home and opened the door before laying the little girl on the couch.
Demona grabbed some cold ice and put it on the young girls forehead and began getting to work to help clean and heal her wounds. She then wrapped her injuries up in bandages and laid her into a bed after she was done. She sat her up with some pillows and tucked her in.
"There now, Comfy?" Demona asked with a smile.
Marissa nodded she closed her eyes for a moment and fell asleep.
-The next morning-
Marissa awoke to a statue standing over to her bed it was most likely Demona. Marissa felt a little hot she wondered if she was getting sick but it didn't matter she went over to the stove and bagen to make some food for Demona which was steak and potatoes after she was done cooking she turned off the stove and cleaned up before collapsing from exhaustion.
-hours later-
Marissa opened her eyes and found herself back in bed. She also found Demona, now awake and watching over her.
"The food you made was delicious, Marissa," Demona praised while rubbing her head. "But you shouldn't have been so reckless with you feeling so ill."
"Sorry, mommy. I just wanted to make you something. Because well I like it when you smile." Marissa said Demona's eyes widened at the word but her heart filled with warmth.
"Thank you, my child. You're very thoughtful and sweet," said Demona, and then she kissed the girls forehead. For the first time in forever she didn't feel alone.
The girl fell asleep she hoped the child would get well by tomorrow. It was a little scary to think about. It was hard to believe, but Demona was beginning to feel something she never thought she would feel again, love.
-1980-
Marissa was working hard on the homework her mother had given her. She heard her mother was looking for a special book as a birthday gift but she didn't know what it was.
"How are you coming along?" Demona asked upon entry.
"I think I'm getting it done well. But I'm double checking just in case." Marissa cheerfully said a smiled formed on her face.
"That's good," said Demona, full of pride. "After you finish, we'll have your cake and you can open your present."
"Ok I can do this." Marissa worked on her homework trying to finish what Demona had given her she was still curious about the gift finely she finished the homework. "Ok I'm done."
"Very good," said Demona. "Party time." Demona set down her gift to Marissa. Marissa looked at it. There was a paged marked inside there was a spell of transformation.
She looked at Demona with a confused looked before she realized something.
"If you wish it, I can make you a gargoyle like me," she said. Marissa looked at her mother she thought about that she had always loved gargoyles and being one would be a dream come true plus she know it would make her incredibly happy.
"Ok I'll do it."
Demona smiled and said, "I hope this brings you happiness, my daughter."
Marissa hugged her mother the smile on her face was all that mattered to Marissa at this moment.
-spell ceremony 1982-
Demona had her Marissa lay down. As she chanted the spell Marissa felt her body burn as bones shifted. Wings sprouted from her back about the size of Demona's horns sprouted from her head which looked alot like goliath's head her ears pointed curving backwards her skin turned a greenish pale. Her her fingers fused together making only four and became claw her toes did the same thing fusing together and turning into talons but three instead of four and finally her elbows and ankles had a points to it like Demona's. Her hair was the same long blond hair that went to her waist.
"You look beautiful, my daughter," Demona told her as she walked over to her. She helped her pup. Marissa's new tail swished back and forth it looked alot like Demona's as well.
Marissa looked at herself. She was a gargoyle, just like her mother. She smiled and hugged Demona. It was astonishing that was for sure.
-1994 New York.
Marissa was reading a book when her mother intrupturted.
"Marissa, come with me. We're going to meet a new partner of mine," she said.
Marissa got up and brought her book to read. she and her mother glided from the window and onto the building to meet her new partner. It was a human man with brown hair and tan skin.
"Marissa, this is Mr. David Xanatos," Demona introduced. "Xanatos, this is Marissa, my daughter."
Marissa wasn't so sure she liked this man. It was a little troubling.
"A pleasure to meet you, Marissa," said Xanatos, sounding friendly.
"It's nice to meet you as well." Marissa said in a gentle tone before beginning to read.
"I assume you found the castle as I told you?" Demona inquired.
"I did," said Xanatos. "It'll take time, but it'll be worth it."
"Perfect," said Demona, smiling wickedly. "I look forward to the reunion."
Marissa didn't like the sound of that but it wasn't really her business nor would she interrupt her mother for some childish thing.
"I'll be back when everything's ready," said Demona. "Come along Marissa."
Marissa got up and left with her mother once again.
"I can tell you don't trust him," said Demona, catching Marissa off guard. "That's alright. I don't trust him either; not completely."
-A few days later-
Xanatos waited for the gargoyles to awaken Marissa and Demona had snuck back and froze there behind the wall all of them had awoken to the night sky.
"You see them, my daughter?" Demona asked. "They are my original clan."
"Yeah I see them." Marissa said looking at them she wondered if she should be worried. Though Brooklyn was pretty attractive.
"I intend for you to meet them when the time is right," Demona explained with a kind smile. "Especially, Goliath, the one with black hair. My mate. My hope is that he will accept you too."
Marissa smiled that warmed her heart. She was hopeful as well but she wasn't too hopeful.
-Another day later-
Marissa reappeared her mother had told her to come when Xanatos used the machines on Goliath and the others it would be the perfect time then apparently.
The gargoyles fled to avoid being hit by their lasers. Marissa glided by watching them dodging lasers. One tried to shoot at her, but Brooklyn grabbed her in time to get her out of the way.
"Hey. You okay?" He asked.
Marissa stared for a moment when Demona glided up and destroyed the one that tried to harm her. And then she glared at Xanatos.
"Your machine nearly killed my daughter!" She yelled.
"Sorry," said Xanatos. "I guess they thought she was one of Goliath's clan.""
Marissa reached out for her mother. She needed to get to her. Demona saw her and went to go get her. "I'd like it if you handed my daughter over."
"Your daughter?!" Brooklyn asked in shock, looking at her.
"Not biologically, but yes," said Demona.
Marissa wasn't sure what she should say but she waited for a moment a Brooklyn dodged.a shot. "Let me go."
"What?!" Brooklyn asked.
"I'll be safe with my mother. Trust me," Marissa pleaded.
Brooklyn hesitated at first. And then he let go of Marissa and she glided over to Demona, who embraced her.
"Thank heavens," she said. holding onto her daughter and rubbing her forehead. Just then Goliath gilded onto another one and crashed it onto another one that was coming after him. Causing the scrap to hit the castle and nearly hitting the others only for Xanatos and Owen to run inside.
Marissa and demona glided down to xentous once he came back out. "Apparently my steel clan isn't doing as well as I hoped. We only have one left."
"Goliath can destroy it for all I care after what your robot nearly did to my daughter." Demona's eyes glared a deep red as she growled at Xanatos.
"I said I was sorry," said Xanatos. "I'll fix it so it doesn't happen again."ain but right now we gotta take care of this ourselfs."
Demona didn't trust his word but for now she was gonna take her daughter inside and keep her inside for now.
"Stay inside. You'll be safer away from those robots," Demona instructed.
Marissa nodded she took a seat inside well she waited for her mother.
-Back outside-
Goliath pushed the roof over with the help of Brooklyn. And blowing the last robot to smithereens.
"We won, dude!" Brooklyn cheered.
"Dude?" Goliath asked, still not understanding the way people talked these days.
Then they saw something. "You haven't won anything fools." Demona was holding a huge blaster that looks like a bozka gun.
Demona fired the bazooka and destroyed the tower. Brooklyn and Goliath fell and landed in different places. Goliath on the bridge and Brooklyn on the ground in front of his clan.
The rubled on Goliaths wing was quickly pushed off Xanatos pointed his gun at the other three well demona pointed hers at Goliath. "What are you doing!" Goliath angrily asked getting up. That was when Marissa came out peeking from behind the door.
"You're such a fool, Goliath. But then you always were one," Demona cruelly said. "If you'd only listened. Our plan was perfect!"
"Plan?" Goliath asked in confusion.
"It Would've succeeded!" Demona shouted.
"What plan?!" Goliath demanded.
"I made a deal with the captain," Demona answered. "I was to get the gargoyles out of the castle so that the vikings could sack it."
Marissa wanted to stop this she wanted to help. "Mom, don't. Don't do this please!"
"Mom?" Goliath asked in surprise, looking at her. "Who is she? Why is she calling you her mother?"
Marissa ran over to Demona. "I get your angry, I get what happened, but don't take it out on them. Please I'll take any punishment for disobeying. Just please spare them."
Demona's expression softened. And then she put down her weapon and hugged Marissa.
"I'm so sorry. I never meant to hurt you, my daughter," Demona told Marissa
But in that moment Xanatos shot at Demona seeing she wasn't going to kill Goliath only for Marissa to push her out of the way. The blast knocked Marissa backwards into a wall.
"Marissa!" Demona cried out. She glared at Xanatos, eyes glowing red, and picked up her bazooka. "You will pay for harming my daughter!"
"She took the hit! It was her own fault!" Xanatos argued.
"It's because of humans like you that she had to protect me! All humenty that are like you deserves to perish. " She was about to shoot it when Elisa charged at her coming out of nowhere. This resulted in the gun shooting the tower.
The tower came down and broke the floor beneath Demona and Elisa. The two females started to fall. Xanatos made it to safety just in time. Goliath acted quickly. He glided down, grabbed Elisa, and got her to safety. His eyes widened in horror when he realized Demona was still falling with some debris.
Marissa lunged downwards going to save her mother even though she was seriously injured. Ignoring her injuries, Marissa grabbed Demona and glided to the nearest rooftop with her.
Demona blinked in surprise when she saw her daughter's condition. "You need to rest, Marissa."
Marissa tried to move she had to help them she had to but Demona grabbed her, holding her in a tight hold.
"The gargoyles are safe," Demona promised her. "We can return another night to try to reason with them."
"I'm sorry. I shouldn't have stopped you. I just thought I could help. I thought I could get them to see...uh It really hurts." Marissa began to cry into Demona arms.
Demona hugged her and soothingly said, "No need to be sorry. I'm glad you stopped me. You're right. There are other ways. For now, I'm taking you home. The sun will heal you."
"Okay, mother." Marissa held her breath while Demona picked her up and glided off. While this was happening Goliath was holding Xanatos over the edge for what he did to Demona and Marissa.
"Go ahead. If it weren't for me, you'd still be gathering moss," Xanatos told Goliath in a taunting manner.
"Demona, was right. Humans like you don't deserve to be on this earth." Goliath said.
"Goliath, don't!" Elisa cried out.
"Give me one good reason not to drop him," Goliath growled.
"Because you'll be just like Demona. She hates humanity because of something she did don't be like her." Elisa said, trying to reason with him.
"She's right, lad," said Hudson. "Is that really what you want?"
Goliath paused for a moment to think. There was no denying it, Elisa and Hudson were right. If he killed Xanatos, he would be no different than Xanatos or what his love had become. So he made his choice.
"Aggh no." He angrily threw the man aside. Both of them smiled at his actions.
"You know, believe it or not, I still think there's some hope for Demona." Elisa said going over and cuffing Xanatos. "That other gargoyle, she stopped her from shooting you."
"She called her daughter," said Goliath. He looked up at the sky as if wondering were the other had come from. "I don't understand how she came to meet Demona."
"She probably found her when she was a kid or something." Elisa told Goliath but the gargoyles looked unsure by that statement.
"The lass would still be a teen the one I saw looked like she was nearing her adult cycle." Hudson said in a simple tone. "Something about her age just doesn't match the way she spoke of her lass."
"That might be a mystery for another day," said Goliath.
"True for now we should just be happy with rhis day and the day to come." Brooklyn said smiling.
