Something's Missing

Rei was cold. Cold and not at all impressed with her best friend's antics. Minako had been at the shrine helping Rei to decorate her room for Christmas when her excitable companion had declared something was missing. She had then announced an emergency last minute shopping trip on Christmas Eve to find this missing thing.

" Mina-chan! Mina-chan!" Rei called getting Minako's attention over the noise of last minute shoppers. "You still haven't told me what we're looking for?"

"You'll see Rei." Minako shouted back.

The Miko's patience was beginning to wear thin. Being left in the dark about what they were shopping for hadn't improved her mood. She had been dragged from the warmth and comfort of the shrine to the unusually cold temperature and large crowds of Ginza. Though this was exactly the reason she had allowed Minako to drag her out. Rei kept telling herself that it wouldn't have been safe to let Minako go on her own. She could have pulled an Usagi and klutzed out, got lost, or caught a cold. Rei ignored the voice in her head telling her that their leader was perfectly capable of looking after herself, not as alarmingly disorientated as their princess, and that worrying about her catching a cold was probably pushing it.

Tightening her grip on Rei's hand, Minako guided her through a particularly conjested part of the street.

"Hold on tight Rei, I don't want to lose you in this." Rei tightened her grip in kind and decided that maybe it wasn't so bad, she was getting to hold Minako's hand after all.

A few streets and several near tramplings later Rei was brought to an abrupt halt outside a large crafts store.

"We're here!" Declared Minako cheerfully. "See Rei that wasn't so bad was it."

Rei glared at her friend before eyeing the crowd in the shop with discomfort.

"Aaaw Rei-chan, you're so cute when you're grumpy! Tell you what, you wait here for me and I'll be back soon" Taking pity on Rei Minako bounced off happily into the store.

Rei was left almost on her own on the street just out of the reach of the throng of pedestrians making their way up and down the street. She eyed the man pacing near to her warily until he moved away, he was mumbling something about 'a Sailor V doll' and 'must find'. Rei moved away carefully. Another late shopper.

The Miko was beginning to contemplate transforming into Sailor Mars to discover the fate of Minako when she was jolted out of her thoughts by something being pulled over her eyes.

"W-what!?" She spluttered out as a fluffy white bobble dropped in front of her nose causing her to go cross eyed in an attempt to see the offending item.

"A Santa hat Rei. It suits you perfectly! Red definitely is your colour!" Minako giggled. "Oh come on I though that would cheer you up. Smile it's Christmas."

"You brought us all the way out here for that!?" Asked a now frustrated Rei.

"No silly!!" Waving a small bag around Minako smirked, "I brought us all the way out here for this."

"And what is this!?"

"I told you, you'll see." Replied Minako with a wink. "Come on, lets go back, we have decorating to finish!"

Taking Rei's hand again Minako led the way back to the shrine clutching the bag of mistletoe closer. She smiled to herself as she thought about how much better Christmas was going to get because she was finally going to tell Rei.

All the while Minako was thinking this Rei had rapidly cheered up. Because Minako was holding her hand again.
