This is my absolutely first Okami fic, so it might very well be absolutely horrid. Hope you enjoy nonetheless. ^_^ And remember that you cannot sue me for saying that I own Okami.

Amaterasu remembered Waka.

It had taken some time, yes, bur finally she realized that she had once known him. And that she had loved him as much as, or more than, all other beings of goodness in this world.

Strange as it may seem, Amaterasu actually hated none. She fought her enemies because they killed the poor and innocent humans.

She never meant to kill them if she could help it, though. However, when they attacked her, striving to end her life, she had no choice if she wished to save humanity, the animals (whom she found dearer and dearer for every one she fed), and nature (which she loved so dearly that her heart and body soared and ached with the emotion).

Waka, though, was a man of the moon. They had not met the first during their travels.

Then, he was a small boy, who was scared out off his wits and had his blue eyes (now a tinge of spruce mixed with the heavenly colour) opened as wide as they would come.

She had not been a wolf then, but had been in the shape of a young woman with waist-length hair, that was a yellow so light it could be mistaken for white. Her eyes had been green, she remembered, and had held all the life and love of the fields of Nippon.

Waka remembered the sun Goddess of old as well, how she had seated herself on the ground, unmindful of the stains that would inevitable appear on her snow-white dress, opening her arms so he would know that he could receive a hug from her.

He instantly ran into her warm embrace and started sobbing into her shoulder the moment her scent reached his nose; cherry blossoms, hyacinths, warmth, and sunshine.

An overwhelming feeling of love and warmth flooded him the moment her arms enveloped him and the sun Goddess rested her head on top of his while whispering soothing words.

When they had engaged in battle, before she had recalled who he was, Waka had had to fight the urge to embrace her, as the scent of cherry blossoms, hyacinths, warmth, and sunshine had reached him over the more distinct smell of canine. It had only been her fiery eyes and her growl as she stood with his sword caught between her sharp, gleaming fangs.

He had never forgotten the first time he had looked at mother Amaterasu, who had always had a gentle, loving smile on her lips for anyone and anything.

He loved her as dearly as she loved him.

Amaterasu knew she loved all, but she did not know if Waka was special. Waka, who had never had a mother, did not know if what he felt for the sun Goddess was what all felt for their mother, or if it was what all felt for their lover.

When he, once more, saw her in a human shape, he smiled and walked towards her, even as her smile glowed with gentle love and she opened her arms to let him know he could receive an over-due embrace.

His smile broadened, though stayed soft. "Amaterasu, mother to us all and origin of all that is good… It has been too long, ma chérie." with that said, he instantly locked his arms around her waist and buried his face in her shoulder, drawing in deep breaths of her wonderful scent.

"It has been too long, my dear, dear child." whispered the woman into his hair. "But we did remember each other."

And done. I sincerely hope you enjoyed it. Please, review.
