Funny Way to Start an Eternity

I opened my eyes and saw a flame. A candle flame that seemed too detailed and intricate to be real. I wonder why it looks that way. I thought. Then I remembered what had happened just before I opened my eyes. Remembered I was in a hospital with my mother and I blacked out… only to wake up on fire. I'm dead. I thought I'm dead and in Hell? No. No that can't be… because if I was I would still be in the flame. Am I in Heaven then? Was the fire a test?

I pulled my eyes away from the candle flame to take in the rest of my surroundings. I was in a cream-colored room with elegant furniture and no windows. Books were everywhere around me. Some were in different languages. Many of them were on medicine judging by the titles.

It was then I heard a sound to my left. I noticed a man in the doorway of the room. He had pale blonde hair and pale white skin. His features were masculine but beautiful. He had golden eyes that seemed to stare into my soul. Oh! I thought with a start. That is God! He smiled at me with incredibly white teeth and said "Hello. My name is Carlisle Cullen." Oh… I guess he isn't God then. I thought.

I realized he was waiting for me to respond so I said "Hello. My name is Edward Masen."

He nodded at me and said, somehow without moving his lips, 'So he remembers his name then. That's good. It might make things easier.' He then said, while moving his lips, "Hello Edward. I need to talk to you. I am sure you are confused. It is very disorienting I know but I need you to pay attention while I explain." He spoke without moving his lips again saying 'Lord please let him understand. Please help me with him.'

"How are you doing that?' I asked. Noticing for the first time how strange and musical my voice sounded.

"Doing what?" he asked looking confused. He then added without moving his lips 'Is he delusional? Did I do something wrong? I did what I remembered happened to me… I thought I had it right.'

"That." I said. "What you just did. Speaking without moving your lips… and what do you mean 'had it right'? What did you do that you think you did wrong?"

He stared at me in complete confusion then said with moving lips "I am moving my lips. And how do you know I did something to you?" 'Oh dear he is delusional! What have I done?' He again added without moving his lips.

I was now as confused as he was. I was also very angry. "I know you did something to me because you said it out loud! You keep talking without moving your lips, adding comments to yourself! And don't call me delusional!"

He responded without moving his lips by saying 'How on earth does he know-'

"BECAUSE YOU KEEP SAYING I AM!" I yelled interrupting his sentence.

He stared at me again started talking without his lips saying 'He keeps acknowledging my thoughts instead of my- OF COURSE! That's why! He can read minds like Aro! But apparently he doesn't need to touch me to do so… Does that explain a little Edward? I wasn't saying those things I was thinking them.'

"Thinking them?" I asked while considering the possibility that he was delusional.

"Ah!" he said while moving his lips "you can read minds! How useful… and confusing to us both apparently." He then added without moving his lips… which I now realized meant that he was he was thinking instead of talking. 'I guess I suppose I should finally explain 'eh Edward?'

"Please do." I said still stunned at the revelation that I could read minds!

"Well…" he said, then explained to me what I was, and who he was, and what we both ate, as well as mentioning my mother's part in this. I listened in wonder yet I believed everything he said. I then realized that this was a funny way to start an eternity.
