This came out of nowhere. My muse is very strange to me sometimes, but I am still working on my multu-chaptered fics. Really! I just had to get this out, which is probably full of crack and whatnot.
Also, I do not know where the twins got those pictures.
It was a quiet day in the Third Music Room, and Haruhi attributed this to two things.
One, the twins were actually occupied with something.
And two, Tamaki and Kyouya, were listening to a class speaker, and they therefore would not be coming to club until later.
This was a wonderful time to be studying in Haruhi's opinion, and she wasted no opportunity to begin.
Flipping open one of her textbooks, she sat down on one of the desks and began to–
"Hey Haruhi!" She heard a twin yell across the room. "Do you wanna look?"
By now, Haruhi was a seasoned veteran in this crazy world. When someone asked if you wanted to look at something, you said nothing and quietly backed away.
You remained concentrated on your own studies, and did not look up when–
"Are you sure you don't want to?"
Haruhi kept her head down but replied in a clear voice: "Yes, I'm sure."
The twins came to her side of the room. "Are you sure?" they asked her, with one twin on either side of her. "Are you?"
"Very sure," and Haruhi willed herself to continue reading.
"It's something very, very rare," Hikaru began.
"And it's sure to make you laugh," Kaoru finished.
She ignored them.
The twins looked to each other, and decided to turn to Plan B.
"Hey, Hunny-senpai! Mori-senpai! Do you want to look?"
"Look at what?" Hunny asked, taking a bite of cake.
"Some pictures," Hikaru smiled.
"Of who?"
Both leaned in, and whispered: "Kyouya-senpai." They paused for a dramatic effect before adding, "As a baby."
Hunny's eyes widened. "Kyou-chan?" he said in pure disbelief. "Takashi, did I hear correctly?"
"You did."
"And," Hunny asked them, "where did you two find this? Does Kyou-chan know about this?"
"Oh, we have our sources." Don't ask, the twins were essentially saying. (The latter of Hunny's questions was left unanswered, so Hunny and Mori knew the answer.) "So do you want to?"
Hunny looked to Mori and shrugged. "Okay!"
The next time Haruhi looked up, she saw the twins and Hunny and Mori huddled together, and she could hear their voices loud and clear. It was not a good sign, but she wasn't going to fall for their trick, whatever it was.
She remained concentrated, even when the twins reappeared by her side.
Please go away. Please go away.
But she must have been disfavored by God today, because her prayer was not answered, and the twins were still standing over her, visible smiles on their faces.
Definitely not a good sign.
"So, Haruhi," Hikaru said, "are you sure you don't want to look?"
"I'm sure," she replied. "So can you two leave me alone now?"
"Of course not," Kaoru said, "you're our favorite toy."
She grimaced. "I was afraid of that."
"Yep!" Hikaru turned himself around to sit in the chair adjacent to her. "So, Haruhi, do you want to see some pictures?"
Haruhi knew she was asking for trouble when she asked, "Of what?"
"It's not a question of 'what,'" Kaoru clarified, "but rather a question of 'whom?'"
"Fine. So who?"
"Kyouya-senpai," Hikaru could not find enough joy out of saying these words, "as a baby."
She nearly fell over in her chair. "WHAT?"
"Exactly," Kaoru beamed, "Kyouya-senpai was actually an innocent newborn once too, just like the rest of us."
"And there was a time when he acted his age, too," Hikaru added, "playing with toys, eating baby food, and all that jazz."
Haruhi was shocked, to say the least. "I hope you guys know that what you're getting yourselves into. It won't be my fault if you get killed."
Kaoru shrugged. "Nobody's going to know. And he's not going to kill us."
"Well," she said, "that's your own decision. I'm not going to look at it, lest I become a party to this ugly secret."
Now that she had actually calmed down, Haruhi knew that she shouldn't look. There were too many risks, and there was no way that she was going to become their accomplice.
No. She had a dream to accomplish, and she didn't want to die a premature death either.
But just then, Hikaru whipped out a small photo, taking it out of his jacket pocket for a second before placing it back.
For that second, Haruhi saw the black hair, sharp eyes, and…diapers. She sighed and knew then that they had (somehow) gotten his baby pictures.
Hikaru wavered his hand from inside his pocket to out. "Come on," he teased her, "you know you want to see it. You just have to say it."
"No, I'm not."
"Don't be so drab, Haruhi," Kaoru said. "Have some fun for once in your life!"
"I was having fun – before you two came along."
Both twins feigned an injured look. "How harsh, Haruhi," Hikaru said, "you wound us."
"Then will you two leave now?"
"Never." The smug look on their identical faces was full of arrogance and (failed) charm.
A few minutes passed in silence, and Haruhi used this time to reread a passage because their previous interruption had caused her to forget. The twins, meanwhile, were undoubtedly thinking of a comeback.
"Why don't you want to look Haruhi?" Hikaru finally said. "We're not going to charge you anything, unlike Kyouya-senpai."
"Yeah, and it's only five pictures," Kaoru continued, "which are not going to kill you."
She rolled her eyes and was beginning to see that there was no way out. She was eternally trapped in their grasp, and she was starting to think–
Well, maybe one peek wasn't so bad. Truth to be told, it was tempting. Besides, they might leave her alone…
The twins looked to each other, knowing that they had her.
"I guess," she began, "one look isn't so bad."
The twins gave a devilish smile, and this was when Haruhi began to regret her decision.
But she looked, even though she knew that she shouldn't have.
It was amazing, she decided, how…cute a person could look as a baby. Or how Kyouya-senpai in particular looked rather disarming as he held a rattle.
Or, as Fuyumi fed him baby food.
Haruhi decided not to ask where they got it. It could have been from the black market for all she knew.
But any moment now, this was going to become like any clichéd story where the said person in pictures appeared behind their backs, demanding them to know what they were doing.
This is what would get her screwed because she had been caught red-handed, but it was already too late. Hikaru had taken out the pictures, and she was looking at the last one when–
"What are you looking at?"
Haruhi and the twins literally jumped in their seats. All three uneasily turned around to find themselves face-to-face with none other than Kyouya, the Low-Blood-Pressure-Demon-Lord, the Shadow King, who had an all too familiar smile on his face right now.
A really, really bad sign.
"O-oh…nothing?" Hikaru managed. He quickly stowed the pictures away, and added, "Just some, er, family pictures."
"Family pictures," Kyouya repeated.
"Yeah," Kaoru said, "family pictures."
"I see." And after what seemed like an eternity, he turned away to meet up with Tamaki to discuss the week's events.
They all let out a sigh of relief. "Okay, I concede, Haruhi," Kaoru said, "we're never doing that again."
"You better not."
"I swear on my life…"
--
And yet, a week later, Haruhi couldn't help but a feel a sense of déjà vu when she heard the twins yell across the room.
"Hey Haruhi! Do you want to look?"
She knew the right answer, and she knew she shouldn't have, but she did.
She looked.
