Max's Good Grade

Max's POV:

I hate school. I hate school. I hate school. I hate Anne for making us even go to this place. Why am I even stressed out about this test? It's not like it matters at all anyways, we won't make it through the year here anyways. I guess I just want to show Fang up. Ever since I saw him locking lips with Miss Perfect Red Haired Wonder, we've been super competitive with each other. All I know, is that I need to get a better grade than him.

Please let me pass. Please let me pass. Please let me pass.

Calm down Max. Even the worst stress becomes calmer with time.

Shut up voice.

Please let me pass, please let me pass, please let me pass. Soon, the old-lady teacher passes me back the dreaded piece of paper. I brace myself, then glance at it. "YESSSS!" I scream. Then, I jump up on the desk and do a happy dance. I've scored a ninety-six. I know for a fact that Speech is Fang's worst subject.

Yeah. So whatever, the test for speech class, and it was really an oral presentation. I figured if I told you that in the first place, I'd look stupid for being so nervous. I don't even know why I was worried. Fang doesn't talk, Speech should be a breeze. Now that I know for a fact I've beaten him, I totally can't wait to collect the ten dollars he owes me from this. Fang can be so stupid sometimes. "Max!" My strict-old-lady teacher said, in her strictest old-lady voice. "Get off the desk, and you've just earned yourself a detention!" Yeah right. I can't wait to get home and show Fang my super grade.

"Fang Fang Fang Fang Fang!" I jump up and down and say, as soon as I see him. "Cough it up."

"Cough what up?"

"The moneyyyy. I totally won. There is no way you've gotten a better grade than me." Fang smiled a little bit, but I paid no attention. "Show me your grade." He asked me. I pulled out the rubric and showed him the ninety-six. Suddenly, his small smile turned into a full out grin. "What?" I asked.

Then, Fang pulled out his sheet, and showed me his grade. I felt the floor fall from beneath me, and confusion all over. Not literally, that part was hyperbole. See! I learn something in school. I pulled out the wallet I'd taken from Anne's room, and gave him a crisp ten dollar bill. Then, I looked at the page again and scowled at the angry looking ninety-seven shining from his page. Sometimes, I can't even believe the messes I get myself into.
