It was a normal day to say the least. Things got bad, fast.
At about noon, they were notified of a middle school on a navy base where a man came in with a bomb strapped to his chest, claiming to be the father of a student.
Once they arrived at the scene, McGee tried to negotiate the suspect into letting them into the building. Ziva, Gibbs, and other NCIS agents covered each window on the first floor, and second floor with snipers.
Eventually the suspect let one person go in. Gibbs insisted on it being him. McGee waited outside in the van, watching and listening to the scene unfold through the use a tiny camera and microphone in the breast pocket of Gibbs' shirt.
He tried to convince the man to unstrap the bomb from his chest, but to no man ran out of the building, oblivious to the thirty snipers, handguns, etc. outside of the building. Immediately he was shot. He collapsed and died. They all released the breath they had been holding and thinking the nightmare was over. But to all of their dismay, there was a dead man's switch, and automatically starting the countdown when he hit the ground.
It was a strange bomb. No one knew what to make of it. Ziva cut a red wire, causing the time to deduct two minutes. Tony, terrified for Ziva's life, grabbed the bomb and ran. He ran so fast he was at the school's large metal dumpster with seconds left. He threw the bomb in and ran.
The team watched the whole scene unfold from the other side of the property. Ziva grabbed Gibbs' forearm so hard it could've bruised. McGee couldn't look up. The random NCIS agents who had covered the area all watched with a look of horror.
When the bomb exploded, Tony was about twenty feet away. It blew the top off of the dumpster, and knocked Tony off his feet.
When the smoke cleared away, they all saw the frame of an average-sized athletic man in his early forties walking toward them in slightly tattered clothing. They bomb was weak. Strong enough to kill Tony, yes. If he hadn't thrown the bomb in the dumpster, that is.
Ziva let go of Gibbs' arm and burst into tears of joy. Gibbs pulled her into his arms and stroked her back. McGee finally looked up and smiled so hard his face hurt. It was like a domino effect. One after the other, the around thirty agents surrounding the building realized he was alive, and smiled.
I guess he really is invincible, after all.
