'Courage is using your brain and your heart when every cell of your body is screaming at your to fight or flee - and then following through on what you believe is the right thing to do.'
You know when most people think of Scotland they imagine bagpipes, kilts, the Highlands, and the Loch Ness Monster. They most certainly do not think of vampires. No, if you said that there were vampires in Romania people would more likely agree that if vampires existed they would be there. Scotland? No.
If you would of asked Jasper Owens a few months ago if he even believed in the existence of them, you'd get in response an eye roll and maybe a 'Yeah, right'. Now though, he'd simply ignore the question all while a faint smile on his face. Things have changed.
It all started the day his uncle Bob received a phone call inviting him to construct a golf course in Scotland. He accepted the offer with great excitment at this new opportunity for his career and his family. His wife Dottie, though she was apprehensive at first, also was thrilled to be moving to a new country. However, their son Tony, was not at all excited. He had enough trouble making friends in the States and now he was suppose to go make new friends in a foreign country and to live in a strange new way. But Tony knew that it would make his parents happy so he went along with it.
Unlike his cousin Jasper, was beyond thrilled to move. The moment he found out he was starting to pack his things into boxes weeks before they needed to be packed. The teen was fed up with his highschool and everyone in it, wanting to start a new life. There he could be whoever he wanted to be. No more taunts and teases, or anymore petty drama that he always somehow managed to get involved in. This was a fresh new start. However it would be the second fresh start that he'd try.
The first time was four years ago, Jasper was only 13 at the time, when his mother went to work and never came back. He waited for over three days for her at their apartment, going to school and wishing everyday she'd be waiting for him. Finally he called his aunt. When Dottie found out that her sister hadn't been home for nearly three days she managed to get ahold of her. Her sister cried and went on about how she can't take care of him, that she can't handle being a mother anymore, Dottie knowing that what she really couldn't handle was working then using the money to get food for him instead of spending it on drugs and booze. That week they went to court and got full custody of Jasper as his mother gladly gave it over.
The school he attended was pretty nice for a public school, but just because the school is nice does not mean that the students are. Almost everyother day Jasper would get into fights, be tripped in the hallway, have food thrown at him, and get yelled at by teachers. He did manage to find a small group of peers that he got along with, though even they thought he was weird too. Remarking that his quietness was giving off a 'serial killer' vibe. But he didn't mind it, he was just glad he'd have people to talk to or even just sign his yearbook.
When the day arrived to move he was the first one up, bringing his bags to the door along with eveyone elses before sweeping throuhg the house to make sure no one was leaving anyhting behind. The second they got to the airport his heart started to race as they got closer to the gate, even accidently squeezing Tony's hand too tightly, earning a scowl from his cousin. Tony and Jasper both held their breath as they walked through the gate onto the plane, stepping into their new lifes.
