It was night, and Hermione had volunteered to take watch. She was sitting on the hard, cold ground while listening to Ron's snores echo the tent when she heard the twig snap. In an excuse to get up and stretch her legs, she decided to investigate. She peeked in the tent to make sure the guys were sleeping before setting out into the dark forest.
She had walked quite a ways now and thought she had better go back when she heard voices. They were hushed so she couldn't tell what they were saying but they seemed to be arguing. She slowly began walking towards them then stopped when she realized who they were. A man was standing about ten feet away from her, and standing just in front of him was Draco Malfoy. She froze. What was he doing out here? He had stopped talking she looked up to see why and locked eyes with him. His eyes were wide and his mouth was hanging open. But then he quickly closed it and said:
"I'll see you back at the camp, Browe." Browe started to walk but stopped right next to Draco and said in his ear. "You better find what were after, or we'll turn you into the dark lord. And you know where that leads." Then he walked off. Draco watched him leave until he was too far to see then turned to Hermione. Hermione started to back away.
He put a hand up. "No, wait."
"Why?"
"Because I'm not going to hurt you."
"How do I know that?" She started to raise her voice. "That's all you've ever done! Why should you stop now?"
"Because I've changed!" He shouted back. He looked around to see if anyone heard them. "Look, I know we've had our differences-"
"Differences! You're practically hunting us down! I think that's more than differences!"
"We're not hunting you down-"
"oh yeah? What's the 'thing you're after', huh?"
"Well, It's Potter but we-"
"I knew it. You are hunting us. Well here we are why don't you capture me now and torture me again! Oh and while you're at it, you must as well capture Ron and Harry to, after all that's who you're after! Oh my goodness Draco! I can't believe I once thought you were just confused! Of course you're not, your Just-"
Draco grabbed her wrists and shoved her against a tree. "Will you just listen to me for a second?!" Hermione stopped yelling and stared at him. His pale blue eyes stared back at hers and she felt her stomach flip, although she's not sure why. "Look, You Know Who wants Potter and he asked me to find him. I don't know why, but I've been leading them off track for days now. We've come close to you a few times but I've always been able to distract them."
"why?" was all she said. Something about his eyes said he was telling the truth.
"Because" he hesitated. Then looked at her confidently in the eyes. "Because when you were at Malfoy manor being tortured. I felt that it wasn't right. I didn't want to be seeing or doing that the rest of my life. I couldn't bare it."
She looked at him. "How can I know you're telling the truth?"
He looked at her. "Like this." He bent his head down and kissed her on the mouth. It was so quick Hermione couldn't completely register what was happening. When he pulled back he said; "Now go, quickly. Get as far from this place as you can." She hesitated. "GO!" She ran. She didn't look back she just ran. When she reached the tent she pounded in.
"Harry! Ron! Get up, we got to go! Now!" They sat up rubbing their eyes.
"What time is it?" Ron muttered.
"Just get up! Pack your things! We need to leave."
So they did. They packed up the tent and got ready to apparate. Before they did Hermione turned around and looked through the trees. But, no one was there. Then they left.
The End
