Introduction

Walking into the main office, my heart skipped a thousand beats; I was never good with new beginnings. The red polo shirt I was wearing made me feel even more uncomfortable, apparently this school had some sort of weird colour scheme going with the grades, and being a Junior, I had to wear this one. I glanced over quickly at my twin brother Alex, who seemed pretty excited for a new start. He wasn't as socially awkward as I was; he could easily fit in with any friendship group.

"You okay, Lauren?" He poked me lightly, probably trying to calm my nerves. I nodded slowly, trying to take in my surroundings.

The school office area was empty, with just a few late comers arriving into what they called "homeroom". I was confused with this term; because I had just moved from London, all these different Canadian words seemed to faze me. Beside me, I noticed that a man, around his mid-forties maybe, entered the room smiling at the two of us.

"Hello, you must be the new students from across the pond," He beamed warmly at us, with Alex nodding as a reply. "Welcome to Degrassi, I'm Mr Simpson, your principal."

"Hi there, sir," Alex greeted, shaking Mr Simpson's hand in a very social way. "I'm Alex; this is my twin, Lauren." I tried to smile at this point, although I could tell he probably thought I was some sort of weirdo.

"Hi," My voice said quietly, looking at him. "It's nice to finally be here,"

Actually, that last bit was a bit of a lie. Of course I didn't want to be there! Back home, although I wasn't Miss Popular, I actually had some sort of friendship with a couple of people. Here, I had no-one. Of course, I knew the whole move made my Mom happy; she got this huge promotion; but still, I wasn't good with change.

Mr Simpson swiftly gave us our timetables before making his way back to his office. Turning to my brother, I shrugged before asking. "What have you got first?"

"I have Physical Ed," Alex smirked; back home, he was like, the captain of every team possible at school. "You?" He pointed to me.

"I got English," I nodded, looking at my timetable. That wasn't too bad; it was my favourite subject at least.

Suddenly then, the school bell rang, which meant a whole parade of students around my age flooded the hallways, making their way to their classes. Honestly, it that moment I felt like some sort of headless chicken; trying to find my way around this massive school building. Looking behind me, I noticed Alex was feeling exactly the same, except he didn't look as scared as me.

"See you at lunch?" He called out to me above the chatter of the hallways before slinging his sports bag over his back and making his way over to the Gym. Me? I was pretty lost.
