AUTHORS NOTE: Okay. Definitely a one-shot fic. Will turn out to Cass/Jake. Or it could possibly be Ronnie/Cass. Don't know.

Disclaimer: I don't own Animorphs, the books, or the TV series.

Cassie sat back on one of the bails of hay in the barn. Normally the Animorphs would have met today in the barn. That is, normally. Now, Animorphs never existed. The Animorphs members, Rachel, whom was dead, Tobias, Jake, Cassie, and Marco, decided it was over. So, without the members believing, there was nothing.
"I'm so tired I can't sleep," "Cassie said into the night.
"Funny how you feel so much, but cannot say a word," another voice answered. Cassie jumped at the sound of the voice.
"Jake?" Cassie asked into the night. Jake's figure walked into the room.
"I forgot my jacket," he said slowly smiling his smile he always saved for her.
'Afraid to love you, more afraid to leave,' Cassie thought in her head.
"Um, have you seen Marco lately? He was supposed to come over today, but you know." Jake's voice faded off.
"No.not.since Rachel.died," Cassie stuttered. Jake looked over at her.
"Don't say that," he said looking into her eyes.
"Why not. It's so obvious that nobody cares. If we really did care, then why are we like this? If we were really the Animorphs, then why did we lose?" Cassie yelled. Jake looked at her in confusion.
"I didn't lose. You didn't lose. Marco didn't lose. We won," he said smiling fakely.
"No! Tobias lost Rachel.and Rachel lost her life," Cassie screamed. Jake stood up.
"Stop saying that!!!" Jake yelled back.
"It's true!" Cassie yelled slinging herself against the bails of hay. Jake ran over to her.
"Cass.please.listen for a minute," Jake said sitting beside her. Cassie nodded shaking from yelling so much.
"Yeah, Rachel died. But, you have to move on," he whispered.
"I'm afraid if I let go.I'll forget her," Cassie said tears coming to her eyes. Jake nodded pulling Cassie to him. He buried his face in her hair while he cried, Cassie crying into his shoulder.
"We don't have to forget her.we just have to learn to not be afraid to let go." Jake said breathing into her hair. Cassie nodded.
"I'm just so scared." Cassie whispered. Jake slid his hand down her wrist uncovering a long deep cut in her wrist.
"Cassie." he said his voice trailing off.
"I couldn't do it all the way. I was afraid of hurting myself. But that was the point, so I did it. And I missed," Cassie said her voice shaking. Jake looked over at her, his eyes filled with sorrow.
"God Cass," he moaned pulling her into his arms once more.
"I can't handle this whole thing. I'm losing it Jake. I.just.can't." Cassie said. She pulled away from Jake to look at him. He looked normal, but he also looked like he had ages 40 years from the time that they had started the Animorphs. His face inched towards hers, and hers towards his.
"I'm scared," Cassie whispered. Jake slid his hand down her cheek comfortingly.
"Don't be," he whispered in return. Without thinking, he stood up. Cassie was confused.
"What are you doing?" Cassie screamed into the night. But Jake had vanished.
Then Cassie woke up.
"Come on honey," her mother said softly, " It's time to go marry Ronnie."

Okay, I just read this again, and it's a little jumpy. Jake's kinda out of character, but I wouldn't be myself if I had to watch my best friend die. So, R&R. I enjoy flames; they make my hot tub warmer.
