Chapter 1

Regulus Arcutus Black felt cold. He was, after all, drowning in icy black water. His lungs were begging to be able to breathe. He was gasping for air but there was only water. Slowly, the water started filling his lungs. His brain is barely registering the fact that the inferni are dragging him down and tearing at his flesh to sate their bloodlust, yet he couldn't do anything at all. He had no energy left. He couldn't hear anything but his own blood pounding in his ears. He was dying and he knew it. Cursing himself for underestimating his lord's protection spells around the locket horcrux. He stupidly thought that his lord wouldn't take extra precautions and that the poison was its only guard.

You see, before one could successfully reach the locker, one must first drink a whole basin-full of poison. A poison that is made to drain a fully grown man's magical core down to his reserves as painfully as possible. So, he was currently stuck as useless as a muggle 'til his core recovers. Which in turn could lead up to months or even years depending in the said person's core size. And he's gonna die in a few seconds so recovering isn't really an option.

Thankfully, Kreacher, his family's trusted elf was there with him and managed to snatch the locket from the bottom of the basin before the poison refills, since he was too weak to even stand. He barely convinced the reluctant house elf to leave with the locket and ordered him to destroy it before getting pulled into the water.

He was about to reach the bottom and Regulus gave up on getting free. Why? Because he knew he won't be able to make it. He doesn't even know which way is up anymore.

He hoped that Kreacher would somehow find a way to destroy it. He would forever be loyal to the dark lord.

His mind went to the time when he first found out of the horcruxes' existence. He wouldn't fault his lord for making some, but his lord made too many! And too many affects ones magic and sanity.

He remembered all tge time he spent at the library searching for information about horcruxes' and how to undo the damages it has done and merge the soul back together. Turns out that the severed soul will automatically merge back to its main piece after its vessel is destroyed.

As his life flashed through his eyes. Regulus only regretted one thing, and that is he hadn't had a chance to patch things up with his elder brother Sirius, who once protected him from their parents' (or more specifically their mother's) mad ways.

Just when he was about to close his eyes one last time, he felt something or rather someone yanked him out of the water.

The last thing he saw was the wrinkled worried face of his loyal house elf before he finally succumbed to unconsciousness.
