Author's Notes: I just had to write this after I read Deathly Hallows. I had actually forgotten about it and I found it today while looking through one of my old fan-fiction notebooks.
Disclaimer: I don't own Harry Potter.
Watching Over Him
"You know for sure he'll be okay?" Remus Lupin asked his newly reacquainted friend, James Potter.
"Of course he will," James responded with a smile.
"But how do you know Prongs? How do you know?" Remus asked.
"I just do Moony," James replied, "You just have to trust; I can't tell the future, but I know he'll turn out okay."
"But he's so young," Remus said, "And Dora and I won't be there for him."
"Lily and I died when Harry was a baby." James comforted. "And he turned out fine. Besides, Teddy's got to be tough. He had a werewolf for a father."
"Plus," put in Sirius Black," Harry's his godfather. I'm sure he'll tell Teddy all about you and Tonks. Besides," he laughed, "I'm sure he can't be any worse than I was. I was in Azkaban most of Harry's life."
"That's not your fault Padfoot," James replied.
"I know," Sirius said, "But you know I'm right guys. I mean, if Harry turned out okay then Teddy's bound to be all right. He won't grow up starved by Petunia to start. And he'll grow up in the wizarding world surrounded by people who care about him. And Voldemort's gone, rotting in hell. Teddy won't have to worry about him."
"Padfoot's right Moony," James agreed, "Teddy's going to have a great life. And did we mention you can look down on him?"
Remus's head shot up. "No, you left out that part."
James and Sirius laughed and led their friend over to a hole in the cloudlike floor. Lily, Tonks, and Fred Weasley were sitting by the hole, their feet dangling into it as if in a wading pool. Remus sat down next to his wife and the other men took seats as well.
"They're at my mother's house." Tonks told her husband. Remus looked down upon the scene. Seven people were shown in a cozy living room. Tonk's mother, Andromeda, was standing and talking to George Weasley. His brother Ron sat in an armchair a little ways away with Hermione Granger on his lap. On the couch sat Ginny Weasley and next to her sat Harry Potter, holding the baby Teddy Lupin, sporting neon green hair.
As they watched the baby giggled and his hair changed to a jet black. Sirius let out a bark of laughter.
"They look like Prongs and Lily with Harry." He said with another laugh.
"They do," Remus agreed, then he laughed "or maybe Prongs is a grandfather."
"No I'm not," James replied, "Lily's too young and pretty to be a grandmother."
They all laughed and Tonks said, "Harry will love him like a son though."
There was a comfortable silence and then Fred spoke. "He's the future you know. He's free from worry about Voldemort. He can just be a kid. Us, we're the past, but him, he's the future." They all looked at Fred somewhat awed by his insight.
"Easy for you to say," Sirius said, "You've got an exact copy still down there."
"He's not an exact copy." Fred said turning to Remus and Tonks, "he's holey." The couple laughed and Remus said, "I remember when he lost his ear, he said he felt saint-like."
Through the hole the baby giggled again. Tonks turned to her husband, "Speaking of saints," she said, "I get the feeling Teddy has a guardian angel up here."
"Yeah" said Remus, remembering Sirius's words from before. He turned to his friend, "or at least a guard dog."
