Calypso woke when she heard a loud crash outside. She sat up, wiped her eyes, and cursed herself for crying. She pulled her blanket around her shoulders and walked out into the dark.
Well, it was supposed to be dark. But Calypso had to shield her eyes from the bright light coming from the beach. It looked like fire, which reminded her of... No. She refused to think about him.
A shadowy figure fell out of the fire and suddenly it went out. Calypso's eyes adjusted to the moonlight and she saw the person stand up shakily. She assumed it was another loverboy the gods could tease her with.
"Calypso!" The person called. Calypso almost thought the voice sounded like-but it couldn't be.
"Calypso!" He yelled again.
"Leo?" The blanket fell from Calypso's shoulders and she ran down the sand.
It was him. It was really him. She stopped about two feet in front of Leo and stared. He grinned sheepishly.
"You-you came back?" She stuttered.
"I promised that I would."
Calypso couldn't help it...she ran forward and kissed him full on the mouth. Their hands intertwined and Leo winced. Calypso broke off and looked down.
"Oh gods, Leo. Your hands."
She fingered his hands and arms gently. Then she felt his neck and face, which were also injured. Spots of his shirt had burned off, and there were wounds on his chest. They were hot on Calypso's fingers.
"I've-I've never been burned before." Leo stuttered, staring down at himself in disbelief. He turned around, and saw the burned pieces of driftwood floating in the ocean.
"No! No Calypso!" He ran into the water, scooping the remains of his contraption into his arms.
"This was our ride home!" He yelled.
Calypso walked out into the water. Leo turned toward her, his eyes filling up.
"I so badly wanted to save you." He choked. "Now I've just made it worse." Like always.. Leo finished the sentence in his mind.
"Leo you didn't make things worse!" Calypso took another step toward him. "You're brilliant and I know you can figure out how to save us."
Leo dropped the pieces into the water.
"I'm sorry, Calypso."
He opened his arms and she ran into them. She was shivering violently. The water was freezing. But soon Leo's warmth got to her, and Calypso wasn't cold anymore.
Leo leaned down and kissed her again, this time longer and sweeter. To Calypso, it was like drinking hot chocolate. His heat spread from her mouth through to her veins.
"We'll figure a way out." Calypso said. Their foreheads were touching, and she looked into his eyes.
"I know."
