Prologue

"Come with me, Fitz has a knife." Clare exclaimed. Her face filled with worry. Eli did nothing but stare at her. "This is where we run, let's go!"

"I'm not going to let that jerk scare me." He said, trying to sound brave.

"Eli, he has a knife." She was about to grab him and run, but she was interrupted by a mocking voice.

"Aw, don't you two look cute?" Fitz came down the corridor, but they couldn't life their eyes from the knife in his hand.

"You should go." Clare said, holding back the lump in her throat.

"And let Pretty Boy make time with my date?" He raised his eye brow.

"Please, Fitz, don't do this." Clare said calmly.

"Shut up Bitch!" He shouted at her. Eli squeezed her arm.

"Get away from me." He pushed her gently, but never looking away from the bully's face in front of him. Clare backed up to the lockers, and tried to restrain her tears.

"Look, I'm sorry about before, about everything. You win." He said, stepping backwards, intimidated by the bully walking towards him

"I've heard that before." Clare couldn't generate the words to tell Fitz to stop, as he shoved Eli.

"Stop, I'm serious." Eli knew now, there was no stopping Fitz. He didn't want to believe that in moments, he could be dead. He'd be without the most important person in his life, Clare. He wanted to tell her how much she really meant to him, despite all the jokes and sarcastic comments.

"So am I." Fitz shoved Eli again, harder. "You've had this coming for a while." Fitz kept on backing Eli backwards; he wasn't going to back down. "What's wrong emo boy, out of smart ass comments?" This time, he shoved Eli right into the locker opposite Clare.

Eli looked at the knife, and then to Clare. A tear rolled down his face, as he couldn't tell the only meaningful person he ever knew how much he loved her. "Please, don't do this."

"Someones got to shut you up." Fitz forced his fist toward Eli.

"NO!" Clare screamed as she ran towards Eli who fell to the floor. She looked at Fitz with tears streaming down her face and realised the knife was in the wall in front of him. She looked down at the boy in her arms and saw no blood. Relief cursed through her body so much, she thought she was about to explode.

Eli looked up at the girl holding him, and forgot about what happened in the last few minutes. He was alive, and so was his angel, Clare.
