Lily banged her head against the wall.

How stupid was she?

Top in classes, first in N.E.W.T.S. this girl was no idiot.

But she could be really idiotic sometimes.

Of course, to everyone who knew her, she was perfect.

Flaming red hair, blazing green eyes.

She seemed the epitome of fire.

But sometimes her hair became auburn, her green eyes soft.

She was as severe as could be.

But she was also the sweetest person Hogwarts had ever known.

She was loved.

But she was hated.

By those conniving Marauders.

Well. She thought.

Not quite all those Marauders.

James Potter.

The very bane of her existence.

She would have been happy if she had never met him.

Of course, 'would' was the key word there.

She was an idiot.

The very first time she had met him, she had fallen.

Hard.

Both literally on the ground, and metaphorically in her heart.

He had bumped into her.

Green met Hazel.

A bond that shaped the future.

A hand reached out.

She sniffed and looked away.

She would never know why exactly her body did that when her heart told her to grab that hand and never let go.

But she didn't.

For years she 'hated' him.

And in fact, her first two years at Hogwarts were filled with a little too much of James Potter.

Enough to drive any sane person mad.

So she hated him.

Or at least, strongly disliked.

She always ignored that tiny corner of her heart that whispered untrue things into her mind.

She pushed it aside.

Then, fourth year.

That little corner expanded.

Became a fourth.

A third.

A half.

A whole.

She fell in love.

Damn him.

Him and his hazel eyes.

And that hair, that hair.

By sixth year, she was far, far gone.

He had asked her out again two hours ago.

And her heart was practically screaming at her to say yes.

What is wrong with you?

She could hear it ask.

You like him! Why on earth are you in denial?

She wanted to beat it up.

But she opened her mouth.

Yes.

She wanted to say.

Yes, yes, yes!

But instead-

'No, I would never go out with you! You are an arrogant prat, Potter, just leave me alone!"

And today he had sounded…sincere.

Not like the other times.

Today, she had seen hurt flash through his eyes.

He wasn't very arrogant anymore.

Suddenly she stood up.

Her heart quieted down.

She knew what she had to do.

She walked down the stairs.

Went up to James Potter sitting next to the fire.

Took a deep breath.

Whirled his chair around.

Her eyes shut tight, not seeing the surprised expression on his face.

"D'you want to go to Hogsmeade with me?"

--

Okay, SOMETHING had to go through Lily's head that fateful time James asked her out and she said yes.

This is my twist.

OOOH!! THIS ONE-SHOT ISN'T EMO!! Clap for me!!
